I am pregnant with a girl, due on Christmas. We’ve been talking about names for a while, but we’re still struggling to settle on one. Her middle name will be Rita, after my mom. Our older children are twin boys called Theodore Charles and Elijah Arthur (Theo and Eli). Any thoughts on the following contenders?

Alice
Annabelle
Lucy
Ruth
Hannah
Georgina
Beatrix

For reference, names offered by me and rejected by my husband are:
Sylvie
Martha
Clementine
Margot
Esther
Nora
Francesca
Bryony
Florence
Evangeline
Genevieve
Josephine
Delilah
Harriet
Clara
Sadie
Penelope
Vivienne

Sorry but I'm not keen on any of the top ones, but out of the ones you suggested I love Sylvie, Martha, Florence, Delilah, Harriet and Penelope. Not very helpful, sorry!

TitusAndromedom · 15/10/2018 21:53

Yes, my husband has made this rather challenging.

I like
Annabelle 'Belle'

Lucy ok

Beatrix 'Trix'

Your others don't belong on list Grin

I raise you Celeste? 'Letty'

trb94 · 15/10/2018 21:56

I love Beatrix and it goes really well with your sons names

TitusAndromedom · 15/10/2018 22:00

Husband would absolutely veto Celeste. His contributions have been Ruth and Elaine, both names of elderly deceased aunts. I don’t mind Ruth because I’ve known some wonderful Ruths and would probably call her Ruthie, but Ruth Rita isn’t great as a first and middle name, and the middle name is non-negotiable.

I think Hannah is a pretty name, but as other poster suggested,
Beatrix would go better with the style of names you already have
for your boys.

queenbeetofive5 · 15/10/2018 22:03

I love Vivienne, I wanted it for my little one but my partner hated it, we ended up letting the other kids name her and they chose Alana.

Names I like are

Marnie
Roma
Isla
Lydia
Margo
Neve
Savannah

The name that sprang to my mind to compliment your boys’ names is Amethyst. Shortened to Amy as you seem to like names that have a good shortening.

Of those on your list, Annabelle would be my pick, or Georgina.

StripyDeckchair · 15/10/2018 22:10

Annabelle is the only one on your list that goes with Rita as a middle name, I think. I don't think 1-2 syllable names or names ending in an 'a' sound work.

What about Naomi?
Or Isabel?

TitusAndromedom · 15/10/2018 22:13

I’ve asked the boys what we should call their sister. Eli suggested we call her Eli and Theo is insisting on Yellow.

Amethyst is a little too flowery for me. I like Marnie. I am leaning towards Beatrix, but I think my husband prefers Alice.

Connie, short for Constance?

That’s what sprung to mind with your other DC names.

StripyDeckchair · 15/10/2018 22:20

Love 'yellow'! Grin Erm... Primrose, Amber, Sienna, Clementine, Xanthe. All have yellow connections!!
Sorry - hadn't noticed Beatrix on your list. That goes with Rita really well.

TitusAndromedom · 15/10/2018 22:22

Quite like Constance. Have added that to the list.

From your combined list I think Annabelle goes the best. 3 syllables with a couple of nickname options, like her brothers. I much prefer the spelling of Annabel though. Less fussy. Lucy is great but doesn't really match the twins. Lucinda, nicknamed Lucy perhaps? Beatrix is great.

Pemba · 16/10/2018 15:02

You could put another name in between Ruth and Rita? Like all your top contenders except Beatrix. Agree with pp that Annabel is a much better and classier spelling than Annabelle, which seems overly frilly.

Icklepup · 16/10/2018 15:39

Alice! Lovely :)

EthelHallowsBroomstick · 16/10/2018 15:41

I like them all except Hannah (80s/90s) and Georgina (no reason, just not a fan!)

EvieV28 · 16/10/2018 15:47

I think Hannah is the best from your list. Also like Ruth but it doesn’t go with Rita, as you said.

LeeMiller · 17/10/2018 15:49

Eli and Alice are a little too samey sounding for me, what if she ended up as Ali or Al (could happen at school even if she was always Alice at home).

Beatrix is nice and goes with your sons' names. I also like Hannah, Lucy and Constance. Annabelle/Annabel I find too frilly. Georgina is fine.

I don't mind Ruth but I think I'd put another name between Ruth Rita as it's a bit hard to say... Ruth Alice Rita or Ruth Beatrix Rita.

newrubylane · 18/10/2018 15:30

Wow, you and I have very similar taste in names. Out of your possibles I think Alice works best with Rita, although it's not my favourite of the names

DC2018 · 18/10/2018 16:07

I like Beatrice best with Bea as a nn rather than Trixie. I also love Elaina rather than Elaine. Constance is nice aswell but dislike Connie x

AlocAcoc · 18/10/2018 16:34

Susannah? Similar to Hannah but goes better with your boys names. I like Beatrix.
