Barber for a boy?

Advice needed! Is the name Barber for a boy completely ridiculous? Would love for something different and to keep it in the family tree! (Great, great Uncles name!) Honest thoughts very welcome!

I can’t think of anything positive about it

Thesearmsofmine · 13/10/2018 09:03

Maybe as a middle name.

SuburbanRhonda · 13/10/2018 09:03

I can think of a pretty snappy title for a business if he goes into men’s hairdressing Grin

lottiegarbanzo · 13/10/2018 09:03

You could use it as a middle name to keep the connection. As a name it is pretty ridiculous, yes. Hairdresser, Barbara, Baa Baa.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 13/10/2018 09:03

Why? With so many normal names, why would you saddle a child with a surname?

Peachbubble · 13/10/2018 09:15

It's awful

CatnippDee · 13/10/2018 09:16

No.

I can think of a dozen phrases bullies could use off the top of my head.

MollyHuaCha · 13/10/2018 09:30

It's a surname.

DailyFailAreTwats · 13/10/2018 09:41

Middle babe, five. But as a first name, it's a coat.

Desmondia · 13/10/2018 10:29

Absolutely awful:

A) It’s like calling a child Policeman or Barrister. It just sounds silly.

B) to make matters worse, it sounds a little bit like Barbara, a girl’s name.

Don’t do it, OP! Middle name only if needs must.

PunkrockerGirl59 · 13/10/2018 10:33

Awful.
Poor child.

LividAtDolphins · 13/10/2018 11:17

I prefer Hairdresser.

DramaAlpaca · 13/10/2018 11:33

It's not good.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/10/2018 12:41

Change it to Barbour as day you named him after the brand

TheGoddessFrigg · 13/10/2018 12:44

Is his middle name going to be 'The Elephant'? Grin

Dljlr · 13/10/2018 12:45

Butcher, Baker, Candle Stick Maker? 🤔 Yeah seems fine why not

percheron67 · 13/10/2018 12:46

Why not Steeplejack or Farmer or Plumber?

MikeUniformMike · 13/10/2018 12:52

How about Babar?

LunaLovegoodsRadishes · 13/10/2018 12:53

Barbar the Elephant?

Helpimfalling · 13/10/2018 13:05

That's what my kid calls his father??

autumnleaves1234 · 13/10/2018 13:06

Nope

AuntieStella · 13/10/2018 13:08

Middle name, if it's a family (transferred surname?) name you want to keep going.

I don't think it works as a first name. I'm afraid I thought 'hairdresser, elephant, rugby team'. But perhaps one or more of those is also a positive reason for you?

user1494588420 · 13/10/2018 13:13

Absolutely especially if you choose black sheep as his middle name

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 13/10/2018 13:18

There are lots of Enochs in my family tree but I'm not about to resurrect any of them.

People will think you've either gone for the "surname as name" thing, or that you've stuck a pin in a kids' vocabulary book.

BiscuitsAndGravy · 13/10/2018 13:29

Why would you do that to your child? Barber is a profession, not a name!
