Do you know any children called...

David
It was so popular in the 80s there was one in most classes. I think it is a lovely name with a great meaning but is it too dated or are people still naming their baby boys David? And would he inevitably end up being Dave?

I know one, and he'd be at secondary school by now. He was always David in full.

YourVagesty · 09/10/2018 22:33

Weirdly, I know a lot of dogs and cats called dave. It's a bit ironic now I think. I know no children called David.

megletthesecond · 09/10/2018 22:34

DS has one in his year 7 at secondary.
DD has one in her school, he's Polish so it's a different pronunciation.
I've never heard either of them call them Dave though.

Mummamia14 · 09/10/2018 22:36

I have only come across a Polish one too - maybe it's popular in Eastern Europe!
Never thought of it as an animal name though!

There's a David in DD's class (Reception)

instastella · 09/10/2018 22:37

Youngest one I know is a late teen. Most of the David's I know have been Dave.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 09/10/2018 22:38

The Royle Family had Baby David in 2000, and I think that had an effect.

ifiwasabutterfly · 09/10/2018 22:39

I can't even think about it without saying Baby David Grin I wonder how old baby David would be now

fishface23 · 09/10/2018 22:39

I read a couple of years ago that the average age of someone called David in the uk was 46.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 09/10/2018 22:39

The youngest David I know is about 17. It's a great name.

dannydyerismydad · 09/10/2018 22:40

I know an 8 year old (y3)

Ikeameatballs · 09/10/2018 22:42

I know one baby and ds, 8, has one in his class. Otherwise I can only think of adults, early thirties and upwards. I think it’s a nice name and due a revival.

HankyPanky04 · 09/10/2018 22:42

All of my kids. I go through so many names it's easier to call them Dave.

Seriously, I know one. Around 3/4y. Next Dave after that is late twenties

Nikkynakkynoo · 09/10/2018 22:43

There was one born in my NCT group (3 years ago) Parents were english/Spanish so I suspect it was chosen as a name that worked well in both languages. I can't think of any at my son's nursery though.

LeeMiller · 10/10/2018 07:42

I know two under 5, one Romanian and one Spanish living in the Uk. One is always, always David, the other is Davey which is sweet and nicer than Dave.

Being biblical it's classic and will come back at some point, along with Peter, Matthew, Steven and Christopher which were everywhere when I was at school. It's a very international name which is a bonus.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 10/10/2018 11:55

💙 David.

Joinourclub · 10/10/2018 11:58

I think it would be hard to avoid Dave forever. I always think Daniel is due a revival, and I prefer Dan to Dave.

UnderTheTree · 10/10/2018 12:05

They youngest David I know (or use too), is probably about 20 now

DC18 · 10/10/2018 12:06

I only know adults. My ex is Dave and I noticed that its the bunt of a lot of pop culture jokes x

Aprilislonggone · 10/10/2018 12:07

Only my df who is 70's.
It's a no from me.

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 10/10/2018 12:07

No.

SputnikBear · 10/10/2018 12:08

I know several David’s who are in their 30s. None of them have ever been called Dave.

HopeGarden · 10/10/2018 12:11

DS1 was at nursery with two David’s. They’d be 7 or 8 now.

I was quite surprised because I thought David had gone out of fashion, but it’s actually still a top 50 name for baby boys in England and Wales.

Rhinofeet · 10/10/2018 12:11

I know one - and friends's boy who is now 9. I agree it's unusual and nice if kept as David, rather than inevitably shortened to Dave.

I myself have a Jimmy which people of my parents' generation often raise an eyebrow at, because it was so common - as in frequent, and also 'common' decades ago Smile

Boatsnack3 · 10/10/2018 12:11

I had 5 David's in my class at school Shock I'm 35.

The youngest David I know now is 9 he is named after his dad.
