David
It was so popular in the 80s there was one in most classes. I think it is a lovely name with a great meaning but is it too dated or are people still naming their baby boys David? And would he inevitably end up being Dave?

(& my ex is also a David, but he's pushing 40!)

serenmoon · 11/10/2018 06:34

I know a 4 year old David

BranstonTickle · 11/10/2018 06:34

I love it but DH vetoed it on the grounds of the Royale Family and The League of Gentlemen.

Thanks everyone, sounds like it depends a lot on where you live. That's so true, in parts of North London it will never be out of favour.

I've known a few adult davids, and it was one of those names in the 1960s where it was practically the law if you had a boy his first or middle name was David or Simon.

OutPinked · 11/10/2018 16:28

No I don’t know any. The youngest David I have met recently was 18 and it was after his Father.

It’s not a popular name now at all but many typical 80s/90s names seem to be coming back. In DD’s class there’s two Jessica’s and a Laura anyway.

Shockers · 11/10/2018 16:31

I know a 9 year old David.

I did wonder whether it would gain popularity after the death of David Bowie.

hungryhippie · 11/10/2018 16:36

Its my 2 year olds middle name so Im biased Grin

moredoll · 11/10/2018 16:39

One in his 20s, one who is 50 and one in his 60s called Dave.

neddle · 11/10/2018 16:44

They’re all dead Dave.

swampytiggaa · 11/10/2018 16:45

I would have loved to call my boy David but it’s my husband and my brothers name. I also love Michael (brothers name) and Nicholas (BIL name) so couldn’t use any of them 🙂

Ploppymoodypants · 11/10/2018 16:49

Yep youngest David I know is 37.
I know a cat, several dogs and a race horse all called Dave.
Dave, Gary, Paul, Phil and Andy seem to be popular ‘ironic’ names for animals around these parts.

I do always thinks, that name trends start with animals. I remember 20 years ago knowing loads of dogs, horses and cats called things like Alfie, Archie, Oscar, and Charlie and Freddie. And now they are really popular human boy names.

You can tell it was a classic lad's name as the comedy rerun channel was called Dave.

I have an uncle called David who is in his 70s and his name was never shortened. He is a lovely man and rose to the very top of British Industry.

It's a classic name, popular in many cultures and languages. Always steadily popular in Jewish communities. Can't go wrong really.

I know two Scottish toddlers named David.

anothermnname · 11/10/2018 19:56

Yes I know two! One is 9 and the other 5!

LynetteScavo · 11/10/2018 19:57

I know two. One is 3, the other is 6.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/10/2018 20:04

I know one; a boy in the infants at school... He's a lovely lad, beautiful manners and always a friendly manner towards the other children. He seems older than his years, iyswim...

parrotonmyshoulder · 11/10/2018 20:12

2 in my school - one aged 7, one 17.

I think there’s been a David in every school I’ve worked in over the last 20 years.

Runningishard · 11/10/2018 20:12

It’s a fabulous name. Historic
