Thoughts on this as a name?

So me and my partner are looking at boys names, we can't seem to settle on any , I love weird and usual names and he loves traditional, but we both like the name King. It randomly appeared on a names list and we both loved it ! I know it's unusual and definitely bold but we think it's just perfect. What do you think? The full name would be King Ashley Robinson so could use middle name in later life .
With names like North &Apple out there today we don't think it's that unorthodox!

Honestly? I think it’s ridiculous.

ThymeCake · 07/10/2018 16:03

It's insane, and not fair on your son.

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 07/10/2018 16:03

If you have a confident popular child then yes, but if your son is quiet, geeky or low on confidence it could be an issue.

I wouldn't.

BertramKibbler · 07/10/2018 16:03

Dreadful idea

RavenWings · 07/10/2018 16:04

If you have to ask "what do you think of this as a name?" it's not a name and you shouldn't use it.

Stupid choice.

KnockMeDown · 07/10/2018 16:05

I think Ashley King Robinson scans much better.

VictoriaBun · 07/10/2018 16:05

I've heard worse .
I had my children a decade ago and then we didn't feel the need to have the approval of random strangers and tbh also out family. We had a name in our head and just called him/her that.

Jasperoonicle · 07/10/2018 16:07

Call the child Ashley King Robinson and save all of your blushes.

ladytmp · 07/10/2018 16:12

Thank you for your opinion, my partner loves it, I asked as I love it but also understand it may not be ideal for a child growing up! Or later in life! I like it the other way around with Ashley being the main name but my partner isn't keen .

Don't do it. I know of a little Kingsley and whilst I would choose that, at least it is a proper name. I would go for that and use King as a nickname?

awkwardsitch · 07/10/2018 16:31

If you like the ki sound what about Kit? King is crap.

SadieAB9 · 07/10/2018 16:36

I understand everyone's reactions but in all honesty I've heard much much weirder! I don't love it but it's no weirder to me than Fox, Bear, Wolf, or things like Nevaeh which are just made up. King is a bit Kardashian-y but then is that really such a bad thing? 🤷

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/10/2018 16:47

Any thing such as King Prince Duke Saint are very hard to live up to. How about Kingsley as an alternative

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 07/10/2018 17:01

It's the sort of name you expect from a WAG or tracksuit mum. Not really appropriate.

jq28 · 07/10/2018 17:07

Iv known someone called
King - he goes by his middle name of James and that says it all!

YourVagesty · 07/10/2018 17:08

Kingsley is much nicer as a first name I think. I love that name.

Oddcat · 07/10/2018 17:08

Nope - poor kid .

cholka · 07/10/2018 17:09

I think you should take your responsibility as a parent more seriously, you’re naming a human not a dog! Don’t set him up for ridicule. Give him a proper name and use King as a nickname

cholka · 07/10/2018 17:10

@jq28 your friend is called Kkng James? Like King James Bible? Eek

Wolfiefan · 07/10/2018 17:14

Is that such a bad thing? Erm yes
Initials of KAR?! To be avoided too.

BewareOfDragons · 07/10/2018 17:16

I know a boy called Kingston, a bit better than just 'King'.

Ashley King, as suggested, is also better.

But please don't call your son 'King'. It's quite ridiculous.

Kezebel · 07/10/2018 17:18

It isn't a name though. It is a title. Saddling your son with an unobtainable title as a name, will not work well for his future.

There are an absolute abundance of beautiful names out there that literally mean 'king' - my SIL has one for her DS.

QueenOfMyWorld · 07/10/2018 17:28

I actually like it but prefer Saint for an out there name

WerewolfNumber1 · 07/10/2018 17:28

It’s terroble sorry. Would you consider Rex? It means King but is at least a proper name.

Otherwise try Kingsley.

jamillla · 07/10/2018 17:38

You'll always get negative responses with names like this (especially on MN) - it's just if how much it bothers you outweighs how much you like it! I know a teenage Prince, a baby Saint and a baby Master and I love them names! Kingsley is also nice if you decide that you don't want to use King. Good luckSmile
