Thoughts on this as a name?

So me and my partner are looking at boys names, we can't seem to settle on any , I love weird and usual names and he loves traditional, but we both like the name King. It randomly appeared on a names list and we both loved it ! I know it's unusual and definitely bold but we think it's just perfect. What do you think? The full name would be King Ashley Robinson so could use middle name in later life .
With names like North &Apple out there today we don't think it's that unorthodox!

For all those saying it’s insane, do try to be aware of other cultures in our country.

LiveLiveAnna · 07/10/2018 20:08

@RiverTam my DSD has a Princess in her new school and she came home and asked about it. Said she thought it was a stupid name. Of course we corrected her and told her not to make fun, etc - we don't condone this kind of behaviour, but I do think kids notice things like this.

PeanutButterAndJamOnToast · 07/10/2018 20:09

This is the first time I've ever seen my DSs name on a baby name thread, quite glad people do think it's a nice name Smile we do always get compliments to be fair.

It's Kingsley by the way, not King. (Well, it's hyphenated queue eyerolls)

I think King is a little bit....tooooo out there.

LiveLiveAnna · 07/10/2018 20:10

@PeanutButterAndJamOnToast Kingsley is an awesome name!

buckingfrolicks · 07/10/2018 20:10

Hell never be knighted. Lord king Robinson.

Racecardriver · 07/10/2018 20:11

This makes me think of the urban legend of Nosmo King

AuntieStella · 07/10/2018 20:12

I'd use Kingsley as the full form, and King as nn.

shartsi · 07/10/2018 20:13

Kingdom as in islambard

FlippertyJibbet88 · 07/10/2018 20:14

I really like it OP. I also favour bold names! In my experience once the child is here a name just becomes them and then people stop getting so worked up about it!

RiverTam · 07/10/2018 21:29

Live oh well, that’s a shame. Neither DD nor any of her friends have ever commented negatively on these names, though equally we are careful not to either, she will never have heard either me or DH say anyone’s name is stupid. Like I said, in other cultures names like this are normal, and it would be bloody rude to diss a name just because it’s not usual in white British circles.

Icklepup · 07/10/2018 21:32

Kingsley

Thebeautifullisette · 07/10/2018 21:33

There’s a King in DC2’s class at school. It’s not what I would choose but I come from a different ethnic background to his parents. As some others have said, it’s not an ‘out there’ name at all for people from certain countries/cultures.

itchybumhole · 07/10/2018 21:34

It's mental. You'll live to regret it and your child will too.

LiveLiveAnna · 07/10/2018 21:38

I disagree @RiverTam - just because something is common or the norm in one culture, doesn't mean it can't be seen as strange in another. As long as you aren't dissing the name BECAUSE it comes from that culture, you're just voicing an opinion. I've travelled to rural parts of one country where it was the norm to name children after electrical appliances. I never took the piss because it would've been rude to, but if my mate called their child some of the names I came across I may raise an eyebrow! Grin

RiverTam · 07/10/2018 21:59

So you agree with me? Because I said that it would be rude to diss a name just because it wasn’t the norm in white British circles? And you’ve just said you never would be? So we’re in agreement. Good.

JellieEllie · 07/10/2018 22:03

I actually really like it.
As you said North was once criticised but she has grown into her name and I can't imagine her now being called any different.
Lourdes, Honor, Chicago all sound like strange names but they really do grow on people.
If you both like it then go for it. I know I would ! I've heard ridiculous names and I wouldn't class this as one of them.

alfiesmam · 07/10/2018 22:06

Rian means King in Irish would you consider that ? Prounounced Ree - an

wizzler · 07/10/2018 22:48

How about Kingston instead?

Bouncingbelle · 07/10/2018 22:59

Runs the risk of being nicknamed wan-king.

Kingsley or kingston are nice.

Perfectly1mperfect · 07/10/2018 23:06

So many names can seem cool, fun or cute when you are pregnant. The reality of a teen at an average secondary school getting through their days with these names can be a very different story.

Sophronia · 07/10/2018 23:26

Kingsley or Kingston

mikapatika · 07/10/2018 23:31

As in Love and Pride although king was his surname

LeeMiller · 08/10/2018 07:52

I think King is a strange choice if you're from an ethnic background where it's a title not a name. Kingsley is a good idea.

Being the child of a multi-millionire celebrity with a name like North, Apple etc is totally different - money and status insulates them from the negative associations that are attached to names by teachers, employers, university admissions departments etc. It's not right but people do judge.

itchybumhole · 08/10/2018 09:25

King's crap. Beyond crap in fact.
Kingsley is a cool name.

bridgetreilly · 08/10/2018 09:28

No. And not just because it's not a name. It also sounds like it's someone trying not to swear. ...king X.
