Thoughts on this as a name?

So me and my partner are looking at boys names, we can't seem to settle on any , I love weird and usual names and he loves traditional, but we both like the name King. It randomly appeared on a names list and we both loved it ! I know it's unusual and definitely bold but we think it's just perfect. What do you think? The full name would be King Ashley Robinson so could use middle name in later life .
With names like North &Apple out there today we don't think it's that unorthodox!

Kingsley or Kingston shortened to King?

Crunchymum · 08/10/2018 11:54

I've heard some godawful names on here but King is terrible. Just terrible.

ladytmp · 08/10/2018 12:26

its interesting to see peoples thoughts on it. I like Kingsley more than just King.. you're right when you say about later in life it may be difficult for him...
We are not tracksuit parents neither am i a WAG just as an FYI, but i can understand how you may get that impression from the name choice.
Thank you for your opinions.

Kingsley is lovely OP ❤️

NoSleepTil2030 · 08/10/2018 12:29

Kingsley is much better. King is only ok as an ironic name for a wee fluffy dog.

OutPinked · 08/10/2018 12:40

I knew a Kingsley at school but just King is along the same lines of Saint West I’m afraid.

whatausername · 08/10/2018 14:11

'King' is outright laughable. Rightly or wrongly, I know many of my colleagues would have had a behind the scenes giggle if a patient presented with that name. But I'm sure it's stress or tiredness or spending too much time thinking on the subject. Call him something that is not a title and save him (and his family!) a lifetime of embarrassment. I'm sure in future you'll look back and laugh at the time you suggested 'King' as a name. Gotta love pregnancy Grin

DollyDayScream · 08/10/2018 14:14

It's very amusing, would make a good anecdote for the other parents in the class.

ReginaPhalange89 · 08/10/2018 14:29

God No, King is an awful first name !

Changedmynametoolikeyou · 08/10/2018 14:34

How about ‘Professor’. That’s a great name.

Ngaio2 · 08/10/2018 14:37

Relative has just called her son Kaiser, which has much the same meaning and appears quite popular in the US

Sunflower321 · 08/10/2018 14:39

Kaiser is Emperor in German! Ridiculous name!!!

Glumglowworm · 08/10/2018 19:31

Absolutely awful!

I would think you were trying to copy the Beyoncé with baby Sir. Ridiculous even for celebs, for a normal baby even worse

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 08/10/2018 19:33

I knew a Kingsley when I was at school and think it's a lovely name. You could then, as pp have said, use 'King' as a diminutive if you want to

PleaseLetMummySleep · 09/10/2018 09:46

May I suggest Rex, which is Latin for king.

ladytmp · 09/10/2018 16:51

thank you everyone, we've decided against King, Mainly because it does sound more like a title then a name... Kingsley is a definite maybe!! Thank you for all your opinions. Its been interesting reading for sure...!

Kingsley is a nice name (Kingsley Amis).

17caterpillars1mouse · 10/10/2018 10:16

So your child would be King Robinson. Can you imagine sitting in the Dr's waiting room and having that called out? I imagine it would feel mortifying.

At a job interview "Hi I'm King Robinson" should the interviewers curtsey?

Sorry but it's just ridiculous

Ngaio2 · 10/10/2018 13:02

Kingsley would be an excellent Choice OP.
Nice sound to it and not common but not so unusual o cause problems

Mrsnjg · 10/10/2018 14:59

I like it. My son has a very unusual name and I love it and he suits it. It will just become the norm for you and its actually more popular than you think. I couldn't bear to have a child named with a bog standard name, but thats my opinion!

PasstheStarmix · 10/10/2018 15:03

Unless you’re a celebrity I don’t think you’d really get away with it

nocluenoidea · 11/10/2018 09:48

North and Apple may be out there, but have you ever actually met one?! Calling your son King is absolutely awful. Can you seriously imagine introducing him as King? Let alone him having to introduce himself as King in years to come. Very cruel!

Flamingosnbears · 11/10/2018 13:18

Rex - it's a lot safer and it means king
