If you could choose your own name what would you go for and why?

I'd like to be called Tessa. It isn't particularly common but everyone knows it, knows how to spell it and pronounce it. I think is sounds quite cool too

Jamie!

Tinty · 04/10/2018 13:10

Astrid, because I think it is strong and interesting and my name is really dull and blah. Grin

WannabeMumm · 04/10/2018 13:23

@Tinty Astrid is lovely. I met a lovely lady called Astrid the other day. Good choice!

@WannabeMumm, it is isn't it. Smile Sadly DP wouldn't let me use it for DD Sad. So I mention it on every baby name thread in the hope someone will use it for their DD Grin.

Wren or April 😊

SelinaMyers · 04/10/2018 13:30

I’d like to be called Kate. Always loved that name but I do have three in my department at work and my own name is not very popular for someone my age.

cheesefield · 04/10/2018 13:37

I'd love a classic name, something like Elizabeth, Ivy, or Connie.

I have a name that was trendy in the 80's but has aged really badly. My parents were young when I was born and thought they were being cool and fashionable. Now it's naff. Think along the lines or Tracey, Tonya, Denise etc. Envy

ArianwenTheAstronaut · 04/10/2018 13:52

Penelope

bodysut · 04/10/2018 14:04

I'd love something a bit more quirky - Effy, Kobi, Quinn... hated being one of many in my school year!

Icklepup · 04/10/2018 14:08

Scarlett

showmeahero · 04/10/2018 14:30

Daisy 🌸

ReginaPhalange89 · 04/10/2018 14:34

I'm not sure ! I have quite a 90s name , think along the lines of Stephanie, Amanda etc. Although to be fair I was the only one at school with the name . I quite like it!

Probably wouldn't change it but I HAD to.... I've always loved the name Emma so maybe that ! I'm sure people have called me that by mistake a few times, I must look like one lol.

I don't think I'm cool enough to pull off anything too unique 😂

Laska5772 · 04/10/2018 14:40

Anna

Cool, classic timeless...

I have a v popular late 1950s name , that you only hear on my age range now (and has never come back into fashion since.. In fact when it comes up on MN everybody hates it !! )

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/10/2018 14:42

Lucy.

Armchairanarchist · 04/10/2018 14:46

Elisabeth or Anna

midsomermurderess · 04/10/2018 15:48

I'm happy with mine, although it has in recent years absolutely shot up in popularity in a variety of forms.

TheGhostOfYou · 04/10/2018 15:54

Something more 90s not 60s/70s, not sure what just something. Never liked my name, even more so as people assume I'm in my 50s before they meet me!

Shadow1234 · 04/10/2018 16:03

Ooh, theres so many names I'd like to be called, other than my own name 😄

Erin
Romy
Anya
Summer
Lottie
Neve
Esme
Saffron
Wren
Clara
Lana
Amelie
Leonie
Skye
Rosa
Luca
Mica
..... the list is endless

thighofrelief · 04/10/2018 16:08

I have a name like Anne. But i like it, short and sweet (like me Smile). If i had to have another name i would stay along the same lines, maybe Kate or Jane.

bodysut · 04/10/2018 16:08

@Shadow1234 Luca is such a gorgeous name on a girl! 🌸

Dljlr · 04/10/2018 16:11

Love that there's another Astrid wannabe! I love that name, I'd love to be an Astrid. I have a two letter name and people still spell it wrong half the time Hmm

blueskiesandforests · 04/10/2018 16:11

Emily.

I get called that anyway by people who have misheard my name, and its less jarring than my actual name.

Shadow1234 · 04/10/2018 16:12

Bodysut - thanks. If only I could have had 20 children, all my favourite names would be realised. 😄

BevBrook · 04/10/2018 16:13

I prefer the name I have over all others (not Bev!)
But if I had to choose another I would have Laura.
Weirdly if anyone ever gets my name wrong and calls me a name that isn’t mine, without fail they call me Rachel. My name is nothing like Rachel. There are no famous Rachel’s with the same surname as me. It has happened over the phone so it isn’t that I look like a Rachel. I can only conclude that is my name in another universe.

ArianwenTheAstronaut · 04/10/2018 16:14

I also get Rachel a lot or sometimes Catherine Confused. I suspect they are names of the same vintage as mine.
