Do you like the name Gabriel? I love it but would hate them to get called Gay. Gabe is ok.
Thank you 😊

Love it! My husband isn't as keen... it wouldn't actually work with our surname though so we won't use it. Go for it!

hedwigger · 04/10/2018 10:57

I also loved it but DP wasn't keen!

DiscoDown · 04/10/2018 10:59

Love it, Gabe for short is lovely too!

DC18 · 04/10/2018 11:05

My BIL is Gabriel and I really like it. His name is rarely shortened but is Gabe when it is x

PinkAvocado · 04/10/2018 11:13

Never heard it shortened to Gay only Gabe. I love it.

Elllicam · 04/10/2018 11:13

I love it

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/10/2018 11:18

I want to like it but just can't for some reason

IHeartKingThistle · 04/10/2018 11:25

Love it.

Peachbubble · 04/10/2018 11:46

Not my cup of tea personally, nor Gabe, sorry.

Velvetbee · 04/10/2018 11:53

Love it. Mine is 21. I don’t think he’s ever been called Gay, he’s Gabe to friends, G to me.

Ozgirl01 · 04/10/2018 12:01

Love Gabriel, and Gabe is great too.

areyoubeingserviced · 04/10/2018 12:02

My favourite boys name

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/10/2018 12:03

My boy will be a Gabriel (Gabe)
I don't see any teasing potentials.
After all there are plenty of Bens around.
No one ever sAys Bent Ben,do they.
Also I'm tripping over Williams of all ages.
Never hear any Willy jokes about that.

Bridgetwithoutthejones · 04/10/2018 14:56

In a minority but really hate it, sounds so wet to me

3secondsfromchaos · 04/10/2018 14:59

It’s just such a lovely name. If (god forbid) I had any more then it would definitely be on my list.

Aprilislonggone · 04/10/2018 15:01

My Gabriel is 18 now. Never gets anything but full name.

PinkFlamingo888 · 05/10/2018 13:15

It’s my favourite name. There was one a few years below me at school and I don’t recall anyone ever teasing him. To be fair though he was the sort of kid that could take the mick out of himself and wouldn’t be offended if others did.

Crystalblue13 · 05/10/2018 14:02

I’m pleased to hear so many positive comments 😊

I don't really like it, especially not the shortened forms Gay or Gayb.

Sunflower321 · 05/10/2018 14:37

Actually I have heard primary boys tease Will and Willi's with Willy. It's quite an obvious connection.

But I've never heard any Bens teased Confused

SleepWarrior · 05/10/2018 14:46

It's not my cup of tea but it's a perfectly reasonable name.

I know it's a boys name but I just can't get past the fact that it feels feminine to me. I'm not sure why.

Hoppinggreen · 05/10/2018 14:55

I loved it but DH didn’t and as DS was born near Xmas I was worried it might be a bit naff
We did go for it as a middle name - which DS says he hates

mistermagpie · 05/10/2018 15:03

I love it, it was on my list for both my sons but Gabe is just a bit... wet? So I never used it.

basquiat · 05/10/2018 15:12

I think this is why so many people say "I like it but my DH doesn't". I've seen that repeatedly on other threads about this name too.

And I agree. It's a weak name, for me. Not a fan.

foxtiger · 05/10/2018 15:15

I think it's a lovely name. I don't think Gay is an issue unless you live in Ireland, where it seems to be more common as a short form - all the Gabriels I've heard of in England have been Gabriel or Gabe. There's quite a famous surfer called that, so I think of it as a cool, outdoorsy sort of name.
