WIBU to call my baby Caspian?

I'm really struggling to find boys names that I like. We have a great list of girls names and basically nothing on the boys list.

DP has descended into madness and is just reading names from the most popular list - but I don't want to call my baby Oliver, Muhammad or Charlie.

I like Caspian but every time I mention this irl I get "like the sea?" Hmm

Maybe I should stop asking for opinions but I want to know what the NM jury thinks.

Peachbubble · 04/10/2018 11:45

Love it.

VimFuego101 · 04/10/2018 11:51

I really like it (big CS Lewis fan). Cassian is lovely too.

midsomermurderess · 04/10/2018 11:54

Elvis Costello is actually Declan Patrick MacManus. As you were.

YouDancin · 04/10/2018 11:54

The Chronicles of Narnia are my first thought - not the sea. Beware that they are being made into a series by Netflicks or Amazon so the name may become popular. Or may shift the perception towards boy name vs sea.
Either way - if you like it use it!
(I like it fwiw).

BiscuitDrama · 04/10/2018 12:06

I really like it.
If it gets shortened, what will he get called though?

roley · 04/10/2018 12:10

My son is called Caspian... my husband is Iranian so we chose the name because of the sea.

bodysut · 04/10/2018 12:14

It's okay. I prefer Caspar, it's a shame you can't use that!

Eleanor90 · 04/10/2018 12:28

adaisy1394 · 04/10/2018 12:37

Sunflower321 · 04/10/2018 13:11

Love Caspian! Cool, strong and classic.

Fashionista101 · 04/10/2018 13:12

Op we have a Bear, was going to be Blossom/ Tiger/Peaches/Casper Wink

daisypond · 04/10/2018 13:21

I think Narnia first before the sea. I do think it's slightly alternative, and it does have a posh vibe too - a mixture of Casper and Crispin perhaps - but I rather like it.

ReginaPhalange89 · 04/10/2018 14:40

I'm not keen on it, sorry ! I've met one and looking at him (only a few months old) I just thought, no! That totally doesn't suit you.

Firsttimer16 · 04/10/2018 14:49

I know a cassian (nn Cass) and it’s a fantastic name!

NoodleEatingPoodle · 04/10/2018 15:09

Will the official birth certificate name be:

Caspian the son of Caspian, lawful King of Narnia, Lord of Cair Paravel, and Emperor of the Lone Islands? But just Caspian for short? Grin

OP, I love it. It's a great name. There are some great names in the Narnia books. Does Rilian do anything for you?

Tinty · 04/10/2018 15:15

A friends DS is called Cassius, how about that?

confusedmomm · 04/10/2018 15:20

Prefer Kaspar less ghostly

GrumpyGoose · 04/10/2018 15:30

What about Cassian?

Sunshine365 · 04/10/2018 15:35

I like it. I’m someone who might well ask if it was “like the sea?” if I met you because a) I don’t have the best hearing so i’d be clarifying that i’d heard it correctly/ knew how to spell it - I quite often ask people how to spell a name if i’m not already familiar with it as that way I can be sure i’m not mixing up similar consonant sounds and calling them by the wrong name, so it’s really just another way of asking that; and b) it’s really just something to say that’s showing interest in your choice.

It wouldn’t reflect any kind of judgement on my part, if that’s what you’re worried about. If it’s that, for some reason you don’t like the association with the sea, then i’d choose a different name, as lots of people will make that association.
