Nova?

I really like the name Nova for a girl.

I've heard the car association a few times so looking on here for opinions. Is that the first thing you think of?? Do you like the name??

As in super?

thisismadness77 · 03/10/2018 20:44

I really like it.

AtticaRose · 03/10/2018 20:45

No va in Spanish means "she does not go", so that's the first thing I think of unfortunately!

But lots of names mean slightly silly things in other languages, and it's far from the worst.

whatausername · 03/10/2018 20:46

Nova is a star that suddenly & briefly shines brilliantly and then fades back to its normal self. Or it can mean North Virginia, kinda like SoCal y'know? Neither are things after which I'd name my daughter.

TigerDroveAgain · 03/10/2018 20:46

Vauxhall I’m afraid

tinytemper66 · 03/10/2018 20:47

A person from Teen mom original girls called her daughter Nova. Makes me think of her.

AuntieStella · 03/10/2018 20:49

Yes, I thought of the car first. Then it breaking down 'no va' = 'no go"

Cosmoa · 03/10/2018 20:57

LOVE!!

Livedandlearned2 · 03/10/2018 21:00

My sister is called Nova and she is beautiful so I love it, but I have never met another Nova, so it is super unusual. Which is necessarily a bad thing, and at least it won't be mispronounced.

indigo13 · 03/10/2018 21:01

It does have associations but none that should stop you from using it, I think it's pretty

AhoyDelBoy · 03/10/2018 21:32

I’m neither here nor there on Nova. A lady I follow on Instagram named her adopted daughter Nova recently.

ThriftyMcThrifty · 05/10/2018 05:08

I know a baby Nova and think it’s a lovely name, less popular than Stella, but just as nice.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/10/2018 18:04

I think it's lovely !

DC18 · 05/10/2018 18:53

I'm not sure about Nova tbh. I prefer Norah x

VenelopeVonSweetz · 05/10/2018 18:55

It reminds me of an ex’s car that was terrible, sorry!

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2018 18:57

I know a Nova, She is about 70.
Use it. Call your next DD Astra and the third DC could be Viva, Senator, Insigna, Meriva or Cavalier.

NonaGrey · 05/10/2018 19:01

I think “Super” first.

FekkoTheLawyer · 05/10/2018 19:03

Scotia

flybabyfly · 05/10/2018 19:14

Doesn’t Nova mean “new”? As a name it sounds ok to me.
In case these things matter to you, it has quite suddenly become much more popular than it was — in 2012 only 17 babies were given the name, but in 2017 the number was 179. So definitely shooting up the charts.

Charley50 · 05/10/2018 19:23

I know a Nova. I like it. Supernova!

superram · 05/10/2018 19:28

I know a 40 year old nice and wondering if it is liveandlearned2’s sister? It was unusual growing up but she never got any hassle-despite her mum actually having a nova car.

susurration · 05/10/2018 19:30

Well it means New when put with Scotia, which translates as New Scotland.

I quite like it.

Notonthestairs · 05/10/2018 19:41

I know a Nova and she is lovely. Great name.

OatsBeansBarley · 05/10/2018 19:46

I did think Vauxhall.

But I wouldn't know that association will fade with time.

Talisin · 05/10/2018 19:46

I immediately think of the bikini waitress from Sharknado. Sorry!
