Thoughts on boys name shortlist

We don't know what we are having but looking for opinions on our boys shortlist

DD1 has a rarely used but well heard of virtue name that is purtian-esque

Benedict - will personally call him Benedict but understand it will be shortened and I'm ok with that

Barnaby - will call him Barnaby but also like Barney so no issue with that

Moses - love this but our surname starts with Mo and ends in an S. Is it too much?

Nathaniel - though not sure how I feel about Nate

Love Barnaby and Moses.

Nathaniel is okay but I'm not too keen.

Really dislike Benedict, sorry.

LeeMiller · 03/10/2018 20:31

Nathanial nn Nate or Nat is nice, as is Barnaby/Barney. Moses feels a bit trendy.

I like Ben and Benjamin but think Benedict is fussy and open to teasing.

Eleanor90 · 03/10/2018 20:37

Nathaniel is a gorgeous name!

I think Barnaby is my least favourite of these, though it’s not bad. Moses is different, I like it!

Sophronia · 03/10/2018 23:57

Nathaniel nn Nat

ReginaPhalange89 · 04/10/2018 05:46

No to Moses. Doesn't sound like it'll go with your surname . Also feels very 'trendy' and celeb like. Although I remember thinking that about Noah 10+ years ago!

Sunflower321 · 04/10/2018 06:43

I really like Moses. Second choice would be Barnaby.

HJL2506 · 04/10/2018 07:53

I really like Barney! Not keen on the others sorry. Congrats!

bridgetreilly · 04/10/2018 08:44

Moses Morris? I wouldn't.

I do like Benedict and Barnaby, though. And no, they won't necessarily be shortened. They might be, or they might not be, depending what your son likes.

auntyflonono · 04/10/2018 08:59

Barnaby is great!

I would avoid Benedick at the moment because of the nicknames already out there for Cumberpatch. Is Roderick an alternative you like?

Eeeeek2 · 04/10/2018 09:07

Moses with your surname I would probably say no.

The others are all lovely names I'd rank them Benedict, Nathaniel, then Barnaby.

ladycarlotta · 04/10/2018 10:29

Moses Morris? I wouldn't.

I actually think I would! It sounds rather distinguished.

PaulMorel · 04/10/2018 11:07

I personally like the name Nathaniel cause Nathaniel means a gift from God.

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/10/2018 11:20

Yes surname is Morris

Would live some more opinions on whether or not it works with Moses

florascotia2 · 04/10/2018 13:06

I don't think Moses Morris is at all bad. It's dignified, non-fussy, easy to spell and say.

One could imagine, for example, "Sir Moses Morris" as a Victorian engineer, complete with bushy beard and frock coat....or "Moses Morris" as a very modern artist or something else creative.

HJL2506 · 05/10/2018 06:55

I personally wouldn't use Moses with the surname Morris.

AdaColeman · 05/10/2018 07:11

Benedict is a wonderful name!

I'm not keen on Moses at all, and also don't think it works well with your surname.

DC18 · 05/10/2018 20:40

I like Barnaby and Nathaniel best. I wouldn't use Moses with your surname sorry x

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/10/2018 20:57

I vote Benedict or Barnaby. Nathaniel/Nate/Nathan is fine but seems a bit less interesting than the other two. i don't like Moses and definitely note with your surname
