Found this name in a Victorian novel and think it's really pretty.

I don't have a baby to name.

What do others think of it?

Just interested.

Horrible.

Mookie81 · 03/10/2018 18:00

Ridiculous.

EduCated · 03/10/2018 18:01

It sounds like it should be a suburb of London, the sort that some talk about with horror and others think is a hipster haven.

Talith · 03/10/2018 18:02

Doesn't have gravitas and sounds ugly. Nope.

DC18 · 03/10/2018 18:03

Not a great name imo especially not for a girl x

QueenOfMyWorld · 03/10/2018 18:03

Urgh no

hungryhippie · 03/10/2018 18:04

No.
Sounds like it should be a place...like Chigwell

percheron67 · 03/10/2018 18:04

Poor child!

MollyHuaCha · 03/10/2018 18:04

How about...

Sydney
Lucinda
Cynthia

LosingNemo · 03/10/2018 18:06

It’s a shopping street in Exeter. And not a nice one either...

ButtermilkBiscuits · 03/10/2018 18:06

Grin thanks OP, that gave me a good laugh.

Anonymumtum · 03/10/2018 18:06

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 03/10/2018 18:07

Ridiculous and awful

megcustard · 03/10/2018 18:07

I think it's really pretty. You should definitely use it.

tinytemper66 · 03/10/2018 18:08

Reminds me of a character in a Welsh TV show - Siadwell! Grin

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 03/10/2018 18:09

Ffs 🙄

RustyBear · 03/10/2018 18:09

Sidwell was a virgin saint from Exeter, she was apparently killed by reapers with a scythe, around 740 AD. There’s still a church and parish of that name, as well as Sidwell Street, in Exeter.

anitagreen · 03/10/2018 18:09

Sounds like a pissy alleyway in east London

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 03/10/2018 18:11

I like it. The only thing that would put me off is that it reminds me of the John Sparkes character, Shadwell.

Peachbubble · 03/10/2018 18:12

Horrible - so many nicer names to choose from

KathDayKnight50 · 03/10/2018 18:24

Yes, in the George Gissing novel, the girl was named after St Sidwell. They were a religious family.

Im not a fan of it, its upto you though ur child but why all the nasty replies ? I know she asked for opinions but theirs nicer ways to reply Espeically the "poor child" one very uncalled for

RustyBear · 03/10/2018 18:34

The Latin name of Saint Sidwell was St Sativola, if you prefer that?

babswindsor · 03/10/2018 18:51

What about Sidolie which is prettier

Rufffles · 03/10/2018 18:58

There's a fairly well known footballer called Steve Sidwell. If I met a child called Sidwell it would cross my mind that he or she might be named after him.
