Naming third DD. First two have vaguely unusual names (older style names, just outside of the top 100 but not obscure). Prefer short names or even shortened versions of full names
Shortlist so far;

Lyla
Lulu
Mimi (Miriam?)
Marnie
Roxie
Callie
Remi
Piper (Pip)
Celine (Cece?)

Marnie is nice.

Callie, Mimi and Lulu I like as a diminutive, not as stand alone names.

I like Miriam and Callie from your list. How about Jenna, Vivienne, Meredith, Caitlin?

tartanscot · 02/10/2018 18:02

Lyla - getting too popular now for my liking, but if that doesn't bother you then I think it's nice!
Lulu - don't like it, too cutesy.
Mimi - might be considered too cutesy but I prefer this to Lulu.
Marnie - not keen.
Roxie - I really like this.
Callie - hate this.
Remi - love this.
Piper - love this.
Celine - not keen, sorry.

Jenna, Vivienne, Meredith, Caitlin? nice names but all too long for me I’m afraid - I’m a serial name shortener and also prefer to not have a name that can be shortened in numerous different ways. I’d prefer another short name

Some other suggestions above will go on the list. This is all really helpful, including the opinions

I go by Mimi as a diminutive. Always gets a great response!

A lovely selection of names. I know a dog named Piper so that always sounds a bit odd to me.

Posted too soon. Was also going to say Caro. Used a lot 1800s for Caroline but much nicer without the line I think.

I really like Lyra for a girl, and is similar to Lyla. Or what about Leila?

I really like Piper too from your list but not really keen on the others.

Adeline with the nickname Addy?
I love Rory for a girl, could be short for Aurora or a stand-alone name.

Piper & Celina. I feel like Mimi and Marnie only work on the right sort of women (Idk how to explain that any better). Otherwise I imagine Mimi and Marnie as very opinionated, vain & snobby teens.

Pemba · 04/10/2018 04:25

Lyla Nice, but I prefer the spelling Lilah or Lila.

Lulu - No, far too frilly, sounds like a poodle. OK as a nickname for Louise/a or Lucy or something.
Mimi (Miriam?) Nice enough, and Miriam is lovely.
Marnie Yes like this, could be short for something, say Marianne.
Roxie Hmm, not bad, but lots of people will say it sounds stripper-y. Maybe better as short for Roxana or Roxanne.
Callie I like this a lot, but feel again it's short for something.
Remi No, it's a man's name!
Piper (Pip) OK, but too surname-y for me.
Celine (Cece?) Fine.
