Ezra - too common??

I really like the name Ezra but kind of ruled it out when it started showing up high on all the popularity lists. I've yet to come across one though!!

Do you know any?? Do you think it's too common?

I love it and would use it if I had a (3rd) boy, but I know what you mean about it being more common.

I have met 1.

Shadow1234 · 02/10/2018 14:12

I absolutely love this name!

I know of an Ezra, but he is 20, dont know any others.
It does come up on mn suggestion lists a lot, but dont know if many
people actually go on to use it.

It may depend where you live as well, as to how popular it is.

I think you can safely say its not as popular as Teddy, Harry, Jack,
etc, so I think if you like it, you should go for it.

MrsBosh · 02/10/2018 14:13

Love it! Although thought it was a girls' name for years!

Eminybob · 02/10/2018 14:20

I have 2 nephews called Ezra, one is a teen, the other is a baby.
Odd as I thought is was quite unusual, I’d never met another before DN1, them when DN2 was born I’ve found out it’s more popular. It isn’t to my taste though TBH.

LusaCole · 02/10/2018 14:21

I only know one - an adult.

DaniC18 · 02/10/2018 15:20

I love Ezra it's a great name and as much as it's talked about a lot on MN etc I don't know any. Both boys names I love are 'popular but very uncommon in my area so it doesn't put me off. X

KiplingAngelCake · 02/10/2018 15:22

I don't know an Ezra. Cool name, like it.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 02/10/2018 15:23

I think it's one of those 'bit different' names that is actually gaining popularity, but if you like it then I wouldn't worry about how common or not it is....

JC4PMPLZ · 02/10/2018 15:23

never met one. I do know of a long dead poet though.

Dogsorlogs · 02/10/2018 15:24

I have an Ezra. We often get told it's unusual.

Obviously we love it

HopeGarden · 02/10/2018 15:26

I’ve met one Ezra at a toddler group. I wouldn’t have thought it was common, but I see it’s been shooting up in popularity over the last 6-7 years.

Cbeebiesrehab · 02/10/2018 15:41

I like it but I feel it might be a bit ‘of the moment’ May have a similar feel to Noah in a few years time.

Picknickers · 03/10/2018 01:00

I know a gorgeous one in his 30s. 🙊

moredoll · 03/10/2018 01:05

Know one in his late 20s. I see it a lot on the baby names threads tho, but who knows if people actually use it. I really like it.
(My spellcheck's suggesting Innis btw.)

Childrenofthesun · 03/10/2018 01:09

Is Ezra common? It isn't where I live (South East). I have been teaching primary school for 15 years and have two children under 7 and I have never come across an Ezra so I really wouldn't let the thought of its popularity put you off.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 03/10/2018 04:13

Don’t know any

Pidgythe2nd · 03/10/2018 04:23

I don’t know any. Home Counties here.
Do know a lot of Teddys , Jacks, Harrys and Henrys.

TheDowagerCuntess · 03/10/2018 04:40

It seems to be having a moment, which suggests that if it takes off, it will likely date.

Not a fan.

Elephantgrey · 03/10/2018 06:35

I know 3 baby Ezras I had never heard it before. If you are choosing it because you like it then great. If you want a unique name then that might not be the case as it seems to be getting more popular.

deptfordgirl · 03/10/2018 06:37

I know 2 under 3. I wouldn't say it's too popular but it's risen sharply in the last few years so may be a bit of the moment for me. Lovely name though.

deptfordgirl · 03/10/2018 06:39

In think Ezra in pretty little liars, George Ezra and star wars has made it popular as well.

Eminybob · 03/10/2018 07:18

Ezra is George Ezra’s middle name, not his surname. I just discovered this recently!

sansouci · 03/10/2018 09:01

Ezra Pound

LydiaLunch9 · 03/10/2018 11:32

It's actually not a common name still. Only 81st last year. The problem is that it's rising so rapidly, it could be much higher in the next few years. And could be a bit dated in the future. It's hard to tell right now. Maybe 81st is its peak!

NoSleepTil2030 · 03/10/2018 16:06

I know 2. I think it's probably having a moment, a bit of a spike in relative popularity, but can't see it becoming top 20.
