Alexa?

I have fallen in love with the name Alexa ( may be Alexandra on the birth certificate). My bump has been Alexa pretty much from the beginning so it's really stuck.
Am I opening my baby up to a life time of hell because of the Amazon Alexa? Will the Amazon Alexa be around for a while do you reckon, or is it going to drift away in 4 or 5 years as DD starts school?

It's a lovely name but yep, I think of Amazon Alexa now too.
But you know what, it doesn't matter, it's a perfectly nice name. As long as you don't name your next one Siri. Grin
My friend has teenage DDs, Anna and Elsa. It used to be a big deal a few years back but not so much now, it's hardly mentioned.

I too made the Amazon link, but more of a fleeting thought so no real concerns. I certainly wouldnt let that put me off a name I really liked tbh. If you love it, then I think you should go for it!
Good luck!

Why not go with Alexandra on the birth certificate and if Amazon Alexa is still around when she’s older and your DD doesn’t like connection she can go by the full name or any of the other associated nicknames like Alex or Lexi instead?

But yes Amazon was my first thought upon reading ‘Alexa’.

My first though was Amazon Alexa too. It's a shame they chose such a nice name for it! What about Alexis or Alexia?

Babyshart · 02/10/2018 09:13

I think I'm going to go with Alexandra on the birth certificate, at least if the Amazon Alexa is still around there are lots of other nicknames to chose from to avoid the Amazon connection at school.

It screams ‘Amazon’ to me now as well - to the point that I would no more call a child Alexa as I would Amazon, Google or Siri.

Sorry, it is otherwise a nice name...

SelinaMyers · 02/10/2018 09:24

Totally didn’t click for me! I had to google it! I was expecting a Dora the Explorer type character Blush

Knicknackpaddyflak · 02/10/2018 16:32

She'll get called Dot for short.... Wink Alexandra is lovely and gives you and her lots of different options for short.

KatieMarieJ · 02/10/2018 16:34

I didn't realise this was the baby names forum and clicked on the thread thinking you had queries about Alexa - I would go with Alexandra or similar to allow you to use Alexa as a nickname but also give her the ability to easily be not known as Alexa if it causes problems. I suspect Alexa will be around for a very long time.

Cleanermaidcook · 02/10/2018 16:46

Every time you go into someone's house who has one and say your child's name their Amazon Alexa will pipe up "sorry I didn't quite catch that"

Pity as it is a nice name.

Elllicam · 02/10/2018 16:57

I would think of amazon too. In fact I saw a meme today on reddit of a girl called Alexa on tinder who kept being asked to play Despacito. It would get annoying pretty quickly.

Jeippinghmip · 02/10/2018 17:00

I like it.

Bridgetwithoutthejones · 02/10/2018 18:06

As a pp has said the amazon thought crossed my mind but left again very quickly. It’s such a strong but pretty name, shame the amazon thing has taken the name over

YouBetterWORK · 03/10/2018 00:07

I loved it too, would have been on my list if not for flipping Amazon.

ThriftyMcThrifty · 05/10/2018 05:19

Hi Op, ny friend has asked everyone to start calling her daughter her middle name and not her first name (Alexa - she is three) because they really hate the amazon association. It wasn’t a problem at first but it seems most of her preschool friends now have Alexa at home, and already she’s getting teased about it. Asked to play baby shark etc. Obviously the technology might be replaced in the next few years - but just something to bare in mind.

I have the same issue with the name 'Zara'. If I ever had a baby girl I'd love to name her that, but I don't think the clothing empire is going anywhere for a while yet! Grin
