What do you think of the name Philippa? Love it but not sure if it’s a little dated. If you met a little girl called Philippa, what assumptions would you make? Thanks

Lovely name.

skeete · 01/10/2018 20:38

Not keen, sorry!

DramaAlpaca · 01/10/2018 20:43

It's a beautiful name, an underused classic.

Phillipa12 · 01/10/2018 20:50

As per my name, my dd was a Phillipa or Pippa or Pip. Have always loved it.

NonaGrey · 01/10/2018 20:51

I think it’s absolutely beautiful and would have used it if I could have.

daisypond · 01/10/2018 20:56

Lovely name.

HeronLanyon · 01/10/2018 20:56

Lovely name with lovely nicknames also.

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/10/2018 20:57

It's lovely. Sounds like a name for a thoroughly nice person.

Changedmynametoolikeyou · 01/10/2018 21:00

I like it but I know some lovely Philippas so that sways me. My friend has a little Pippa and it’s a lovely name that really suits her.

MissLingoss · 01/10/2018 21:09

The name of one of my favourite fictional heroines, and a queen who was well-liked in her time.

Momma22 · 02/10/2018 02:37

My friend's little girl who is now 10 is named Philippa. She goes by Pip mostly. I must admit when she was born I wasn't keen on her name, I too thought it was a little dated, but it's grown on me so much! I actually think it's really cute now. Particularly the nickname Pip. If you love it go for it! A lot of vintagey names are making a huge comeback now

Pemba · 02/10/2018 03:10

Never really liked it, or Philip either for that matter.

Bloodybridget · 02/10/2018 03:15

Yes I really like it, and she'll probably be the only one at school.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 02/10/2018 03:16

Absolutely love it

Bloodybridget · 02/10/2018 03:17

@MissLingoss your fictional Philippa wasn't a nun, was she?

ReginaPhalange89 · 02/10/2018 13:48

I really love it . Pippa or Pip for a nn is too cute ! It's on my list

SparkyBlue · 02/10/2018 13:59

I absolutely love it but Pippa has gone very popular around here so that's the only thing that would put me off .

Rebellia · 02/10/2018 15:29

It's my name and I absolutely despise it. It's so ugly sounding.

I've spent my entire life wishing my mother went with her other choice which was Helena.

MissLingoss · 02/10/2018 16:18

Bridget, no, it's Philippa Somerville from the Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett.

Were you thinking of Philippa from In This House of Brede?

Bloodybridget · 02/10/2018 16:23

Yes I was! I haven't read the Lymond novels, I should probably try them.

SemperIdem · 02/10/2018 17:41

I like it but find the nn Pippa offpitting, it doesn’t travel at all well in Europe.

Plus the only Philippa I have ever known in real life was called Phil by all and sundry.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/10/2018 17:44

Love it shortened to Pip/Pippa.

Strongly hate it being shortened to Phil/Philly

Sophronia · 03/10/2018 07:25

Lovely name
