What do we think?

Was having a chat with my uncle last night and he suggested this. I've fallen in love with it a little. DP likes it too.

Thoughts?

Gorgeous name, one of my favourites.

Ornitorrinco · 30/09/2018 12:31

Looking good then! I expected people to umm and ahh about it.

Any suggestions on middle name to go with it?

As long as your surname doesn't sound silly with it then it's fine. Could be Mo or Moss as a nn.
Moses Field or Moses Grass might be a bit too much.

Ornitorrinco · 30/09/2018 14:37

Definitely not either of those Smile

Lovely. Something classic like Moses Benjamin or Moses Theodore would sound nice.

DaniC18 · 30/09/2018 15:46

I really like Moses.
How about
Moses Samuel
Moses Alexander
Moses Elijah
Moses Henry
Moses Reuebn
Moses Jonah
Moses Cole
Moses Evan
Moses Oscar
Moses Thayer
Moses Luke

I will be a lone voice and say I'm not keen.

Ornitorrinco · 30/09/2018 16:50

That's okay @daisypond Smile out of curiosity, what aren't you keen about?

As long as your surname isn't Basket, then go for it.

Not entirely my cup of tea, but it is inoffensive and timeless.

Congratulations btw!

Aridane · 30/09/2018 17:04

Why would Moses need a nn? It’s so short anyway. Like the name!

tryingtotakeitonthechin · 30/09/2018 17:06

The first thing it made me think of was Moses basket.
Although I appreciate that Moses is a classic name.
I think because it’s so rare these days unless talking about a basket.

daisypond · 30/09/2018 17:18

It's too Old Testament for me, so I'd probably assume you were Jewish if you're picking it as a name now, and I'd think it was an odd name choice if you're not. But it's in the same vibe as Elijah, Jonah, Noah, Eli, etc, and they're quite mainstream now. I'm not sure Moses has got there yet. I do know a couple of Moseses and they're middle-aged/elderly people from the Caribbean, so that is part of its vibe for me.

Cosmoa · 30/09/2018 19:29

I LOVE Moses ❤️

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/10/2018 07:28

Love Moses!

soundsystem · 03/10/2018 07:36

I love it! We considered it but we have a Jewish surname and thought it would be a bit much (we're not religious).

DammitOedipus · 03/10/2018 14:11

My immediate thought was "Where's your Messiah now?". But most kids won't go straight to The 10 Commandments.

PinguDance · 03/10/2018 20:40

I'd assume you were a religious family tbh, Jewish or Christian - and if you shorten it to Mo I'd guess it was a shortening for Mohammad so you'd be giving off strong monotheistic vibes all round.

RedDwarves · 03/10/2018 21:56

Personally, I think it's awful, and will mark your child out as belonging to Bible thumper parents.

It's not like Joseph or Mary, or even Noah, because they have all either had an enduring popularity or have been recently very popular. The Biblical connotations, while still being apparent, are not overbearing. Moses is not like that. Moses is just about the most obviously Christian/Jewish name you could find, with the exception of Jesus.

Sophronia · 04/10/2018 00:06

Moses Alexander
Moses Edward
Moses Gregory
Moses Henry
Moses Jonathan
Moses Oliver
Moses Robert
Moses William
Moses Frederick
Moses Leonard
Moses Theodore
