Raven and Zakk??

Its early on but we’ve managed to come to a decision on baby names already.

My other half is a guitarist and we both share a love of contemporary Metal, so we’ve decided to let this influence our choice of names.

For a girl we’ve chosen Raven Elizabeth.

She will be named after a band called The Raven age and Lizzy Hail the lead singer of the band Hailstorm.

For a boy we’ve chosen Zakk Andrew James.

Named after two amazing guitarist Zakk Wylde and Andy James.

I’m just wondering what’s your opinion on the spelling Zakk instead of Zach or Zac? I’ve never seen it spelt this way before. Is it completely weird or just unusual?

Call him what you want at home but on his birth certificate call him Zachary, he will thank you for it later. .As will Elizabeth Raven.

Congratulations btw.

WerewolfNumber1 · 28/09/2018 20:25

I think you’d be setting him up for a lifetime of “No, it’s spelt Z-a-DOUBLE-k. Yes I know it’s unusual. It was after a musician my parents really liked. No, I don’t know why his name was spelt that way. Yes I suppose it might have just been a stage name, but you know, my parents really liked him. No, not my sort of music really.”

Which I imagine would get boring/annoying after a while.

Personally I’d go with Zachary or Isaac and use Zack as a nickname.

chiccoc · 28/09/2018 20:33

Not every name needs to be lengthened - Zach/Zac is completely fine on its IMO. I wouldn't spell it Zakk - seems like it's a bit try hard to have a unique spelling!

TatianaLarina · 28/09/2018 20:35

Zakk is really naff. Zach or Zachary would be much better.

Raven is not my taste but I quite like it.

Metalhead · 28/09/2018 20:36

Raven I quite like, and I’m not usually one for names that are also nouns. Would only work for a dark-haired girl though. A blonde Raven would be a bit naff.

As for Zakk, go with a traditional spelling or you and he will spend your whole lives correcting everyone.

DramaAlpaca · 28/09/2018 20:37

I quite like Raven.

I think Zak looks better with one k.

manicinsomniac · 28/09/2018 20:37

I love Raven Elizabeth

I've taught a Zak (along with a Zac and several Zacks and Zachs) but never a Zakk. I think it looks a bit odd, sorry. But then I can see why you'd want it if you're naming him after a particular person who spelled it that way. So, idk, I'm unhelpfully on the fence.

fruitpastille · 28/09/2018 20:38

I wouldn't use Raven but I do quite like it. However I think it would suit someone with dark hair much better and you can't really predict that! Zak would be better than Zakk...

TatianaLarina · 28/09/2018 20:39

I agree about the dark hair, it wouldn’t work on a blonde.

PatriciaHolm · 28/09/2018 20:41

I'm assuming you know that Zakk Wilde's actual name is Jeffrey....

IhatetheArchers · 28/09/2018 20:44

I've seen it spelt Zac, Zach, Zack, Zak and Zakk (all actual names) so I would rethink.

I like Raven Elisabeth.

Nightwatch999 · 28/09/2018 20:44

Hi OP I am a massive Ann Stokes fan so love the name Raven!

notangelinajolie · 28/09/2018 20:47

I like both of those.

I think you need to stick with the spelling of Zakk - otherwise you wouldn't really be naming him after anyone.

And Raven is lovely but I have to agree with people on the dark hair front.

It's your call OP. I'd stick with your choices it's a bloody nightmare choosing names and once you've named your baby in your head - you'll find it hard to find alternatives. Congratulations Flowers

pinkmagic1 · 28/09/2018 20:47

Love Raven, but agree it would only really work for a dark haired child.

glitterbiscuits · 28/09/2018 20:48

Are they going to be in as science fiction novel?

Give them names for themselves not as tributes to others.

barnet · 28/09/2018 20:48

Raven is beautiful

glivupa · 28/09/2018 20:56

Ravens are the bird of ill-omen and are associated with death. I just googled and they are also symbol of bad luck. What about Robyn for a girl if you want to continue with the birds/nature theme?

Atalune · 28/09/2018 21:01

Zakk is fine. It’s definately youneeeque but that’s not the end of the world.

Raven is a gorgeous name, but the bird and bad omen thing is so unpleasant it does put me off.

My dd has an unusual first name and two very middle England classic names after. So if she becomes a barrister she can revert to either one of those.

MaisyPops · 28/09/2018 21:07

I agree with PP.
'Its zakk yes it has 2 ks... yes it's unusual but my parents decided my name for life was based on some musician they liked when mum was pregnant'.

Both seem a little to 'giving our kids names that show how unconventional we are' to me.

Zach is lovely. Raven (to me) is a bit like forest, river, bear and other nature names where parents try to signal their uniqueness via their children.

ShowOfHands · 28/09/2018 21:49

Reminds me of the names my DD chose for her imaginary future DC aged 10. She's a huge Halestorm fan. She likes the name Zoltan too after the chap from Five Finger Death Punch. I assume she'll grow out of it but I do quite like Raven.

BackforGood · 28/09/2018 22:37

Exactly what Maisypops said.

Ihuntmonsters · 28/09/2018 22:54

I don't personally like Raven as a first name but it's OK, will be spelled and pronounced correctly and most likely not cause any issues for your potential dd. I like Zach as a short form of Zachary or Zachariah and it's OK on it's own too (I prefer longer, more formal names with diminutive options). To me Zakk is a bit silly. The sort of name a teenager might adopt to be 'edgy'. I suspect it would be irritating to have to correct it all the time.

Sungura · 29/09/2018 00:54

Zakk is really a way to cause confusion, but, then, if you don't use it, who's the child named after? Can't you put Andrew first? Aren't there other artists you admire as much?

Picknickers · 29/09/2018 01:44

Funnily enough there was a woman shouting Raven to a cherubic blonde haired child at Paignton zoo last week. I thought it was strange at the time but it's not a horrible name. Zakk does look odd though. Sorry.

OlennasWimple · 29/09/2018 01:57

Raven is my favourite Teen Titan
