Love Mika and Saskia
Not too keen on others.

SundayGirls · 28/09/2018 00:16

Saskia is the only name on there I like (or actually love). It's a great name. Unusual, fun, spirited, elegant, cool but not try-hard or made-up. The sort of name that will take her anywhere and won't alienate people from different parts of society. It's a friendly sounding name as well, quite open and honest. I like the syllable run. Not just the fact it has 3 syllables but it has "bounce" in the way that (for example) Melanie does not.

I love analysing names Smile

SundayGirls · 28/09/2018 00:17

PS If you like Astra, what about Astrid? Also a cool name but not associated so strongly with a car.

BackforGood · 28/09/2018 00:19

Hattie is the only one I could grow to like, but I'd assume it was a shortening of Harriet

Choccywoccyhooha · 28/09/2018 00:20

I love all of them with the exception of Mika, mainly because I consider it to be a boy's name, and Bindi because it's not really a name.
Lux is my favourite - Jeffrey Eugenides?

Choccywoccyhooha · 28/09/2018 00:22

Oh and I'm not sure about Jovie, it sounds like it should be short for something, Giovanna maybe could be shortened to Jovie?

madeoficecream · 28/09/2018 11:33

Juniper, Lux, Saskia and Hattie are my faves from your list I really love them all.

Lux was in my list for a girl but it got some v negative reactions on here so be prepared! I think its a gorgeous name still!

TatianaLarina · 28/09/2018 12:33

Saskia.

Prefer Astraea to Astra which is too Vauxhally.

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/09/2018 12:42

Asia - not a fan
Astra - sounds a bit too new agey for me
Bindi - haha no
Etta - pretty but seems inconplete
Farrah - not a fan
Grey - not for a girl
Hattie - I like it
Jovie - not a fan
Juniper - ok, makes me think of gin
Lux - like the soap?
Mika - nice
Saskia - the best one

Ozgirl01 · 28/09/2018 13:17

I like:
Etta
Hattie
Juniper
Saskia

rugbychick1 · 28/09/2018 13:19

Bindi makes me think of Steve Irwin's daughter

YoloSwaggins · 28/09/2018 13:28

Asia - no
Astra - Vauxhall
Bindi - no
Etta - means "this is" in Russian
Farrah - nooooooo
Grey - can you really imagine yelling "Grey, GREY, come here!" in a park at a girl?
Hattie - too posh
Jovie - no
Juniper - yes
Lux - hotel soap
Mika - singer
Saskia - knew a horrible one at school so no

I like Juniper.

daisypond · 28/09/2018 13:47

Saskia.
Juniper I've grown to like. It's been mentioned a few times on this board.
Mika - if short for Michaela, yes.
Hattie - if short for Harriet or something like that - though I'm not keen.
Farrah - possibly.

manicinsomniac · 28/09/2018 21:02

Asia - quite like it
Astra - really like it - funky but quite sophisticated too
Bindi - not keen at all and never heard it. Indian name?
Etta - really like it. Would prob use it as a nickname though.
Farrah - like it but wouldn't use if you're white British.
Grey - for a girl? Don't like it at all
Hattie - not overly keen. Would only use as a short for Harriet.
Jovie - I think I really like it though it's a new one on me. Nickname?
Juniper - really like it
Lux - strongly dislike this. I think it has a harsh, ugly sound
Mika - really like it.
Saskia - really like it. Another that's cool but also sophisticated.

My shorter short list would be (in order):
Saskia, Mika, Etta, Jovie, Juniper, Astra

moredoll · 29/09/2018 02:29

Saskia

bridgetreilly · 29/09/2018 08:58

In order, I like:
Saskia
Hattie
Juniper
Mika
Etta - prefer as nn for Harriet, Henrietta
Farrah
Asia
Astra - this is a car not a person
Jovie
Grey - if you want a colour, pick a nicer one! Also usually a boy
Lux
Bindi - this is massive cultural appropriation

Pemba · 29/09/2018 16:46

I agree with some others that Astra and Saskia are lovely. Also really like Hattie if short for Harriet. Etta is not bad.

Lux is soap and just a bit strange as a name.

Grey is really, really awful, how could you think of it? First of all it sounds male, second of all grey, (really?), has implications of old age and also of dullness. You know when people say 'it's been a very grey day' (meaning dull and boring and a bit sad maybe). Grace has a similar sound and is nice, but not Grey.

Pemba · 29/09/2018 16:48

Oh and Astra is a name, it's Scandinavian I think. Just because a car manufacturer used it for one of their models doesn't take away from that. Otherwise Megan, Zoe and Clio could never be used for naming a girl either.

PawneeParksDept · 29/09/2018 16:51

They aren't names I'd personally use but of them I quite like Juniper

Lux is the lead character in The Virgin Suicides, the title is a bit of a clue so morbid association

Mika is a boys name

Grey isn't a first name

PawneeParksDept · 29/09/2018 16:53

Oh and Jovie is a hard no too

disappearingninepatch · 29/09/2018 16:53

Asia -continent
Astra - car
Bindi - decoration on forehead
Etta - James. What a woman. Choose this.
Farrah - Teen mom
Grey - 's Anatomy
Hattie - Harriet on birth certificate
Jovie - Not sure what this is!
Juniper - berry used to make gin. What's not to love.
Lux - soap flakes.
Mika - male singer
Saskia - Wouldn't be my choice but it is a girl's name.
