Managed to get a shortlist but can't narrow it down further.
What are your thoughts on/associations with the following names?? Do you think any are overused??

Boys-
Ace
Cedric
Emmett
Nixon

Girls-
Asha
Gloria
Hester
Mabel
Xena

i like ace and asher a lot.

i don't particularly like gloria or hester (sorry!) they remind me of elderly people

have you considered zinnia?

all the best x

Cyberworrier · 27/09/2018 20:43

Congratulations!
I like Cedric and Emmett from your boys list. Nixon is the US president and Watergate scandal to me and Ace makes me think of flying aces from WW1 like Biggles and just a bit pressurised potentially as also something people say when something is great. Just can’t imagine Ace being an easy name to have in school.
I like Asha best of your girls list, Hester makes me think of Hester Prynne in the Scarlet Letter, which is a shame as it’s a pretty name but may be off putting?

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 27/09/2018 20:45

Cedric and Gloria are both FABULOUS names!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/09/2018 22:04

I love Cedric and Gloria 💙💕

Sunflower321 · 27/09/2018 22:51

Love your boys list, especially Cedric!

I'd choose Xena from your girls list.

Sophronia · 27/09/2018 22:58

Cedric and Gloria

Sunflower321 · 27/09/2018 23:01

Cedric was only used 12 times last year, so no not overused! Great choice!

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/09/2018 13:01

I love Cedric but it rhymes with DH's name so feel I can't use it. It's lovely though

I also like Emmett

Really not a fan of Nixon and Ace is cool but imagine may be hard to pull off if your not really sporty and popular

From your girls names I love Hester and Mabel. Xena is my least favourite by a long way

Laac · 28/09/2018 17:55

Like Cedric, Emmet and Mabel

manicinsomniac · 28/09/2018 20:46

I don't think any of them are overused. The only ones I've ever met personally are 2 X Hester, Asha and Gloria - and the first 3 are now adults and the Gloria is Spanish.

Maybe it's because the boys' names are quite rare so I have no other association but, other than Ace which I quite like, they just make me think Harry Potter, Twilight and Vice President

I really like Xena from your girls' names.

Icklepup · 28/09/2018 20:49

Ace or Asha

Picknickers · 29/09/2018 02:07

Love Cedric. Really cool.

Sungura · 29/09/2018 02:18

Cedric and Emmett; Gloria and Mabel. Doesn't narrow it down much, does it? 😂 I really like Mabel best for a girl, but the boys are a tie.

PassportBridgetPants · 29/09/2018 19:34

Boys-
Ace - quite like but sounds American to me.
Cedric - probably my favourite of the boys.
Emmett - would like it but it just makes me think of the rather wet neighbour in Keeping Up Appearances! Kids will have no idea about that though.
Nixon - people might assume after the president, are you OK with that?

Girls-
Asha - Brimful of (sorry!)
Gloria - fine
Hester - love
Mabel - known quite a few lately
Xena - Warrior Princess

Snog · 29/09/2018 19:49

Ace and Zena for me

bridgetreilly · 29/09/2018 20:08

Emmett is the ultra-drippy neighbour in Keeping Up Appearances. Having said that, I really don't like any of your other boy choices. And no, none are overused. Well, except in that I think any use is over-use.

I do like Hester and Mabel a lot, and I don't mind Asha or Gloria. Xena will always and forever be the warrior princess, which is quite a lot to live up to.

starkid · 29/09/2018 23:32

I like Cedric and Mabel :)

madeoficecream · 29/09/2018 23:33

I love Cedric and Mabel!

I also quite like Hester

I dislike all the others in particular Ace

Belindabauer · 30/09/2018 09:42

I don't think any of them are overused.
Ace sounds like a character from an action book eg Jack Rider.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/09/2018 10:06

Gloria and Hester are nice the others are dire sorry.

Notveryadventurousname · 30/09/2018 10:17

Hester is nice. Emmett reminds me of this: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqua_Horological_Tintinnabulator.
Spelling is Emmet (after the artist) but it is a beautiful thing (though displayed in a shopping centre!) and if you call your DS Emmett it's well worth a trip when he is 3 or 4!

Better pics. It is lovely, with birds and squirrels that 'dance' as it chimes. Please ignore if you go for Cedric!Smile

Notveryadventurousname · 30/09/2018 10:24

And you can see I got the spelling wrong! Going back to bed!

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 11/10/2018 14:36

I have a son called Asher, and DS2 was going to be Hester (nn Hetty) if he were a girl. I love Gloria and like Nixon.

finallychangedmyusername · 11/10/2018 17:47

Emmett is fab. (Reminds me of Doc Brown in Back to the Future - showing my age...)
