Elea - Joy

Hello everyone, my husband and I are fixed on a name if the baby is a boy but can't decide if it is a girl. I love the name Elea - Joy or Nova - Joy What do you think of either of these suggestions? I love the thought of a double barrell name as when the child grows and their personality starts to show they will start looking more like a ''Joy'' or more like an ''Elea'' then we would just use that name, if that makes ANY sense! I am on the fence only because I wonder if people would struggle with the pronunciation of Elea (Eleya) and because in practice does anyone actually USE double barreled names! All ones I know seem to use the double barrel at the start then the name gets shortened later on (although maybe for the reason I stated?) SO sorry if this is hard/annoying to read, my keyboard is not letting me use all the keys!

i like elea-joy. although when she grows older and starts school, she will probably only get called one of the 2 names.

Elea - ok
Nova - my dogs name, love it
Joy - nice as a middle name.

Drop the double barrel it's chavvy and people will get fed up of it in school/appointments.

I would just go for Nova! I don't think she will end up being called Joy when she's older.. You will probably not use Joy either to be honest. Nova is a beautiful name on its own!

I wouldn't know how to pronounce Elea, and certainly wouldn't say Eleya - probably El-lea? And yes, I think she'd mostly end up being called one of them, as it's a bit of a mouthful.

Don’t double barrel the first name, it’s horrible. Joy is a beautiful middle name and works well with either of those names.

I wouldn’t know how to pronounce Elea, I was reading it as Eh-Leah. I don’t like the way it looks. Eh-lay-ah is ok but I wouldn’t spell it Elea. Double barrelled is awful. I would use Joy on its own

Elea is my daughter's name. We pronounce it e lay ah. It was my Nona's name. I love it.

I'd use Joy on its own. It's a beautiful name. I don't like hyphenated first names much, nobody will know how to pronounce Elea (which autocorrects to Flea Confused) and Nova is a car.

I've never heard of Elea before, my initial thought on how to pronounce it would be E-Leah.

Nova is a lovely name.

I also agree that double barrelled names are chavvy now, they're far too overused as well.

rollseyes me too! I think the spelling Elaya is prettier, easier to pronounce and will cause her less grief in years to come. Joy is a lovely name. But drop the hyphen. Nova is a nono from me too. Why call your child after a car. You might as well cal her Cortina, or Seat. The only acceptable car/child names are Mercedes and Guilietta.

Definitely drop the hyphen. Joy for a middle name is nice and I love the name Nova.

Agree with other poster, Elaya is a better spelling if thats how you want it to be pronounced. (Would save any confusion). Love the name though, very pretty.
