Starting with the sound All (as in ball) or Oll (as in old)?

Thank you!

I'd pronounce it Al-ban as in Al-in. Or as in don't call me Al. Rhymes with Gal!

spugzbunny · 22/09/2018 23:11

*Al-un - stupid phone

DioneTheDiabolist · 22/09/2018 23:12

All-bun.

PassportBridgetPants · 22/09/2018 23:14

That's interesting spugz - I was thinking St Albans is definitely All or Oll?

Sandsnake · 22/09/2018 23:14

All-bun. Like how you pronounce the place St. Alban’s.

3ChangingForNow · 22/09/2018 23:14

all

Doyoumind · 22/09/2018 23:15

I think I'm an Oll though either sounds right to me.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 22/09/2018 23:20

In my accent it’s “al-bins”

Not like call or all. More like the “al” sound in “shall”

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 22/09/2018 23:21

Like Alvin.

Sungura · 22/09/2018 23:23

Yes, like Alvin here, too.

RebeccaCloud9 · 22/09/2018 23:24

(I have said it so many times now!)
I think I say it somewhere between all and oll- bun.

But I might also pronounce it Al bun if it was a name, like Albie/Albert.

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 22/09/2018 23:32

All-bun

dinosaurkisses · 22/09/2018 23:34

Ol-bun

hungryhippie · 22/09/2018 23:38

ol bun

SequinsOnEverything · 22/09/2018 23:41

Like Alvin for me too.

PassportBridgetPants · 23/09/2018 00:19

So everyone's as confused as me Grin

OP posts:
Sophronia · 23/09/2018 00:38

El-bun

Charm23 · 23/09/2018 00:40

I know of a school using 'Alban' in the name and is pronounced 'All-bun' at least it was in that particular area South East of England

MissLingoss · 23/09/2018 00:57

Like All Bran. Without the r, obviously.

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 23/09/2018 01:26

Ol-bun. I think regional accents may be responsible for the differences.

Cbeebiesrehab · 23/09/2018 07:46

Oh see I automatically read it as Al-bun like Albie/Albert/Alfred

ThePricklySheep · 23/09/2018 07:48

We know one who is Al as in Alfred and then bun.

Oct18mummy · 23/09/2018 07:54

All ban

ILoveMyMonkey · 23/09/2018 08:04

Here in snorbens (St Albans) it's pronounced allbun.

RebeccasFront · 23/09/2018 08:16

Like the cereal...
