Is Esther too similar? It’s the only one we’ve both liked but is it too similar as they both end in “er”?!

I think they go nicely together.

AnyaMoondial · 22/09/2018 08:36

Oh my goodness, I absolutely love the name Esther. They sound good together, there is a different rhythm I think to how you say the names so it doesn’t seem too similar.

happystory · 22/09/2018 08:52

I think they're a bit too similar, sorry, though I do like them both

soloula · 22/09/2018 08:58

I like them both but just not together, sorry.

My friend has a Mirren and Heather which I love!

A little too similar, I think.

I don't think they sound too similar. Maybe it depends on your accent.

Heather and Esther are nice together. I came on this thread to suggest Marian.

MariaYouveGottaSeeHer · 22/09/2018 10:22

I know a mother and daughter with these names!

Anywho, no, I don’t think they’re too similar. Esther is lovely. If we ever have another baby, it would definitely be on my girl list!

merlotmummy14 · 22/09/2018 11:21

Bit too rhymey imho. Is there anything similar you like? Old timey similar names could be Ruth, Francis or Josephine. We have a 6 month old called Heather and for our second (boy or girl) we are thinking Blair.

merlotmummy14 · 22/09/2018 11:33

We also like Willow or Lily for another girl.

Namehelpneeded34 · 22/09/2018 11:39

Thanks everyone, some nice alternatives to think about. We also quite like Heidi but again it may be a bit similar (and Kardashian like having 2 Hs!).

Lovely names but I can see why you ask.

I really like Heather. Fiona popped into my head - has a similar feel to me.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/09/2018 12:38

I wouldnt put them together. I also know a sibling combination of Heather and Emma Which I've always found a bit clashy. I dont know why but I think H and E names together are a no no

Heather and Esther are a bit similar for me. It's not just the ending, it's the 'e' sounds too.

Alison/Allie is nice

Ameliarose16 · 22/09/2018 20:10

Heather and Mabel?

borntobequiet · 22/09/2018 20:12

Rowan.

Sungura · 22/09/2018 20:36

At first I thought, no, that the names went together fine. They do clash mildly, though. It's not bad, but they do. Heidi would be just fine. Helen goes nicely with Heather. Or you could pick and flower name like Rosemary, Myrtle, or Lillian.

louiscatpaws · 23/09/2018 01:38

I don't think they're too similar, but how about Esme, a bit like Esther but very different to Heather.

Leilia · 23/09/2018 14:38

Too similar in my opinion.

(Growing up I knew siblings Ellen and Megan - their names got mixed up by everybody all the time, and they hated it and those names are less similar than Esther and Heather imo)
