First and middle names ending in the same sound - help and opinions please!

Hello everyone,

My husband and I are expecting our first baby - a girl - and have finally found a name we quite like And can both agree on.
We also planned to use a family name for a middle name (my grandmother's name).

Both names end in an 'a' sound and I'm worried it will sound a bit funny e.g. Ada Clara (those aren't the actual names)

Does anyone have an opinion or any advice for me?

Thanks!

We had the exact same problem - loved our first name choice and definitely wanted a certain family name as the middle name, but both ended in -a. Our solution was to add a second middle name which ends in a consonant sound. We feel it flows nicely now and we love all the names.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you like the namws use them. I never use my middle name. Both my children have 2 middle names. I like their names but never use them.

DD2's first and middle name end in -a (Elena Katharina). I actually really love the way it sounds having two names ending in -a together. Having a first and "middle" name that both end in -a are quite common where I am from though, so I suppose it is not unusual/wrong to me.

I would say that so long as it sounds nice to you, then use the names you love! If not, you could always add a second middle name as mentioned by a pp. Smile

As mentioned, give her two middles names to break up the similar sounds.
E.g.
Ada Isabelle Clara
Ada Genevieve Clara

I don’t think my son’s middle name sounds particularly great with his first name but I figured it’s so rarely used and it has sentimental value so went with it anyway. If it’s the names you have your heart set on use them. How often are you referred to by both your first and middle name?

IVflytrap · 20/09/2018 17:23

I don't think it's a problem at all. Plenty of girls have both names ending in A, especially in other European countries.

Thanks everyone.
Hubby has said he doesn't think it matters and because the name means something to us we should just go for it. Plus - you won't use the middle name often Smile

My friend had this problem as she wanted Alice Frances but the endings sounded too similar... She just added another name and her dd is now Alice Marie Frances.

In some countries (Span, Italy, Romania etc) pretty much all girls' names end in a. Middle names are barely used anyway, most of the time she'll be first name + surname.
