I know one who goes by Ben. I like it.

MamaHechtick · 16/09/2018 15:17

I don't know any, but I like it. The shortening Ben is nice too.

Sunflower321 · 16/09/2018 15:30

Bendy Dick Blush

LARLARLAND · 16/09/2018 15:33

I know one who is utterly delightful. Gorgeous name.

daisypond · 16/09/2018 15:37

I like it. I don't think I know any.

Sungura · 16/09/2018 15:39

Don't know a single one. I like the name all right. Makes me think of eggs, though... 🤔💭

MrsRachel85 · 16/09/2018 16:54

I know one, lovely guy. Lovely name.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/09/2018 17:15

I know one. But his name is shortened to Ned. Which is awful.

Sophronia · 16/09/2018 22:55

I know one whose parents call him Bendy!

Courtney555 · 16/09/2018 22:57

I instantly reply "cumberbatch" in my head.

CAAKE · 16/09/2018 22:57

I also know one who goes by Ben. It's a great name.

moredoll · 16/09/2018 22:59

I prefer Benjamin tbh.

EnglishRose1320 · 16/09/2018 23:03

It's my ds' middle name, love it

butlerswharf · 16/09/2018 23:07

My first thought is it's try hard. But I always say if you love it then use it.

Cbeebiesrehab · 17/09/2018 12:51

Heard it called out in McDonalds the other day and it sounded like a very big name for a boy with a fruit shoot hanging out of his mouth!
Ben is a nice diminutive though.

GraceMarks · 17/09/2018 16:06

Yes, there was one in my year at school and he lasted for about 1 day before being renamed Bendy Dick. That was pre-Cumberbatch, though, so maybe it's more popular these days.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 17/09/2018 16:09

I like it & prefer it to Benjamin but someone once said (as others have here) 'Bendy Dick' so I wouldn't use it.

oldbirdy · 17/09/2018 16:13

My DS is Benedict known as Ben, has never been called bendy dick ; but then his friends aren't tossers. I had him after miscarrying and he is definitely my little blessing 😊

oldbirdy · 17/09/2018 16:22

This poem is called "Benediction" and I think of my Ben when I read it:

Bless this little heart, this white soul that has won the kiss of
heaven for our earth.
He loves the light of the sun, he loves the sight of his
mother's face.
He has not learned to despise the dust, and to hanker after
gold.
Clasp him to your heart and bless him.
He has come into this land of an hundred cross-roads.
I know not how he chose you from the crowd, came to your door,
and grasped you hand to ask his way.
He will follow you, laughing the talking, and not a doubt in
his heart.
Keep his trust, lead him straight and bless him.
Lay your hand on his head, and pray that though the waves
underneath grow threatening, yet the breath from above may come and
fill his sails and waft him to the heaven of peace.
Forget him not in your hurry, let him come to your heart and
bless him.

Shallishanti123 · 17/09/2018 16:28

It's a nice name, makes me think of Benedict Arnold though... but a lot of youngsters won't know who he was.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 17/09/2018 16:30

Really like it.

oldbirdy · 17/09/2018 17:44

The Benedict Arnold connection doesn't worry most British people, are you American? Can see how it might be an issue there.

IvanMashPotatoIvanDoTheTwist · 17/09/2018 17:53

I love it and it's on our list. For me it's just a little bit 'extra' over Benjamin which is what I like. I like Ben as a shortening too and it doesn't seem overly popular even though Benedict Cumberbatch is very much in the fore these days.

ZebraKid71 · 17/09/2018 20:03

I know one, who went to Eton and is super posh. I was raised Catholic and for me it has religious connotations.

17caterpillars1mouse · 18/09/2018 08:36

Beautiful poem oldbirdy
