Is Aslan too commonly associated with Narnia? My DH loves it but I feel like I'll always think about the lion 😂

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ferrier · 13/09/2018 20:01

Definitely Narnia.

OnASwissRoll · 13/09/2018 20:01

Don't... just, don't!

Brokenfurnitureandroses · 13/09/2018 20:01

It’s also an Irish rock (ish) band.

VickieCherry · 13/09/2018 20:01

It is, unfortunately. I love it (and loved Aslan as a child!) but my partner already vetoed it and I can see why.

Maybe a middle name...?

RiverTam · 13/09/2018 20:02

Yes, but it doesn’t mean it won’t work. I know an Aslan. You get used to it pretty quickly and I quite like it as a name.

SilverySurfer · 13/09/2018 20:06

Too commonly associated with Narnia? It's only associated with Narnia as far as I know (apart from the band), never heard it used elsewhere and don't like it as a child's name.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 13/09/2018 20:06

Sorry, I can only think of Narnia.

florascotia2 · 13/09/2018 20:16

Aslan is a version of an old Turkish name, Arslan, which means 'Lion'.

There was a famous medieval warrior called Alp Arslan (mighty lion):

If you are Turkish or have Turkish connections, then I don't see why not. But it's perhaps a bit strange to take historic names from another language/culture. As previous posters have said, in the Narnia books, Aslan is a supernatural lion (and represents Jesus Christ) not a human.

Itchytights · 13/09/2018 20:18

Nope.

Don’t do it

Narnia 1000%

HollyBollyBooBoo · 13/09/2018 20:30

Narnia - always will be.

Fraula · 13/09/2018 20:31

Totally narnia... but why not?

Urbanbeetler · 13/09/2018 20:31

Aslan in the book is meant to symbolise Christ so another reason to think carefully.

ballsdeep · 13/09/2018 20:33

Crikey Moses!! Get looking back through the baby name book

brokenharbour · 13/09/2018 20:34

Nice try 😊

crocsaretoocoolforschool · 13/09/2018 20:35

I know 3 -you might think marina the first time you hear it but it very quickly becomes just their name

coldrain2018 · 13/09/2018 20:35

I've taught more than one Arslan

Topseyt · 13/09/2018 20:37

Definitely Narnia. I wouldn't, even though I quite like it. It is a magical lion.

Elephantinacravat · 13/09/2018 20:38

I know 3

You know 3 people called Aslan?

I know 1 dog Grin

QuietNinjaTardis · 13/09/2018 20:38

I know an Aslan and apart from when I first met him I don’t even register the narnia thing now. It’s just his name.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 13/09/2018 20:42

Hahahah yes he’ll be synonymous with a lion for his entire life!

Catsize · 13/09/2018 20:43

Think I need my eyes testing.

I read it as 'Asian'.

Small phone.

No no no no no to Aslan. Now, Mr Tumnus on the other hand...

moredoll · 13/09/2018 20:43

Narnia definitely. Middle name if you must.

GinIsIn · 13/09/2018 20:44

Entirely Narnia

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 13/09/2018 20:44

newtlover · 13/09/2018 20:45
