I really like Emilia. I think it sounds pretty and classic however Amelia is so popular does it make Emilia a bit meh?!

I love Emilia and wanted it for my baby but he ended up a boy. I would have had the nickname Emmy. I think it's much nicer, perhaps 'classier' than Amelia. The only downside is everyone would spell it wrong on first hearing it.

aco93 · 12/09/2018 19:57

I think Emilia/Amelia is a really common name nowadays so I'm not keen - however I do love the name Emmy/Emmie!

BusyBee27 · 12/09/2018 20:20

How about Emilie/Emily or Emma or Emiline or something that sounds similar (and would have a similar nickname), but wouldn’t be confused with Amelia?!

toomuchhappyland · 12/09/2018 20:21

It was my first choice for dd but in the end we decided no as she’d have a lifetime of people assuming Amelia.

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/09/2018 20:21

They're basically the same name aren't they ? I pronounce them the same....

Yes, way too popular. Pretty though.

florascotia2 · 12/09/2018 21:32

They've ended up sounding fairly similar, but for what it's worth they have different origins.

Emilia comes from a Roman family name, Aemilius, which originally meant 'rival'

Amelia comes from Amalia which is based on an old German word which meant 'work'.

My friends daughters name. I always feel like I’m trying extra hard to sound out the E, doesn’t come naturally to me. In general conversation it still just sounds like AmeliaConfused

Shadow1234 · 12/09/2018 23:12

Very very popular where i live. I recently heard the name
AMELIE, which id never heard before, and thought it was a
Nice alternative.

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 12/09/2018 23:16

I love it, it’s my absolute favorite name.

I think it has grown hugely in popularity though recently. Before about 2/3 years ago I’d only ever heard of Emilia Fox with the name and it seems to be everywhere now!

OhTheTastyNuts · 13/09/2018 14:47

Do you pronounce it Emeelia (so it sounds like Amelia) or Em-i-lia?

lynmilne65 · 13/09/2018 15:27

Fox

India1819 · 13/09/2018 15:43

I pronounce it EMeelia. So like Amelia but with more emphasis on Em than Am :)

It's nice
Nicer than Amelia imo
Emiliana is nice too Smile

bakerandcook · 13/09/2018 15:55

Love it. Have one Grin She is very much an Emmie and only rarely Emilia. It's not hugely popular round here - yet to come across another at her school of 1,200 kids. We only know of one other. Do know about 5 Amelias though.

LesLavandes · 13/09/2018 16:20

Yes lovely

RavenWings · 13/09/2018 16:40

I think it's very bland and done tbqh. Both Emily and Amelia are just a bit unimaginative.
