We have 10 weeks to go before our 2 year old Matilda Ivy becomes a big sister. We dont know what we are having, we are stuck on both boy and girl names. All suggestions welcome. I like Sophie for a girl and Albert for a boy but we have that problem in that my best friend is a Sophie and my partners best friend is an Albert. we havent ruled them out completly but would like some more options please.

I wouldn't put Sophie with Matilda anyway if I'm to be perfectly honest. It's a lovely name but it's in a separate name pond to Matilda.

Name ideas.

I think Sophie's in the same name pond as Matilda - both Roald Dahl heroines!

I know twins called Matilda and Sophie, always kind of felt Sophie got the ‘boring’ name.
Florence sounds good with Matilda.

I think most traditional boys names will work well with Matilda.

I wouldn't use William though as William the Conqueror's wife was named Matilda. Not sure how many people would know that but some would definitely make the link

I don’t see anything wrong with Matilda and Sophie.

How about Sylvie for a girl or Alban/Albin for a boy?

thank you all for your suggestions. I do like a more traditional name. Eddie is one for a boy i seem to keep coming back to but my partner isnt so sure. I think one that we do seem to have both liked out of these names is George, my only worry with it is we always wanted our boys middle name to be Patrick for sentimental reasons... whats your thoughts on George Patrick? Out of these girls names i quite like Pheobe and Jemima but im not sure Dad will be as keen. Thank you all again.

My DC are Edward and Matilda and we always get compliments on their names and they both suit them splendidly. They are my favourite names from childhood luckily hubby knew how much they meant to me and loved them also. Your on the right track with traditional names

07Hannah · 12/09/2018 20:09

Oddly with Edward/Eddie it came up before we knew the exact due date of baby but when we found out the due date is the birthday of my late Great Granddad Eddie, Matilda's middle name is Ivy after my Great and her Great Great Nan. They are the first children of the sixth generation in the family as Great Great Nan Ivy is still with us at a very healthy and outgoing 93.
