Do these names go?
What sort of people do you think of when you hear the names?
DS is named Matthew and we want to use Mary for a girl if we have one.
Thanks!

It makes me think of Downton Abbey.

I like both names, I think they go well together.

Thanks- I was wondering if anyone would mention the Downton Abbey thing!

I think they are both classic and lovely. Since you asked, I think of people who are reliable, a little old fashioned, and perhaps in the case of Mary a tad stubborn. I think I am quite heavily influenced by Matthew in Anne of Green Gables and Mary in The Secret Garden and The Runaway Summer.

Thanks BevBrook!
Luckily I love Mary Lennox Grin

Ok, it sounds a bit stilted to me im afraid, and a bit 1975.
I may be influenced by convents that I went to I n the 70 s which were full of Mary s & Matthews!

Absolutely lovely OP. Though surely you mean Maffyou and Maireey? Wink

Synecdoche · 11/09/2018 23:01

Both lovely biblical names.

Goostacean · 12/09/2018 00:37

Like them! I’m a traditionalist, though.

Quangot · 12/09/2018 07:52

Biblical and traditional (they're among the more staid-sounding of the Biblical names IMHO)

Sunflower321 · 12/09/2018 07:55

Religious sounding but otherwise nice

LeeMiller · 14/09/2018 17:33

Slightly old-fashioned and biblical

Skyejuly · 14/09/2018 17:36

I have a Matthew and I alwaysn loved Anne of Green Gables.

moredoll · 15/09/2018 01:56

Matthew is lovely. Not so sure about Mary, sorry.

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 15/09/2018 19:04

I like it!

Evanna13 · 15/09/2018 21:00

I like Matthew, Mary is fine. Very traditional.
