Porn Star name

WhereIsMyDressingGown · 11/09/2018 13:06

I like it. I can’t understand why people are so shocked when there are Teddys, Poppys, Alfies etc everywhere. Those names are all much weaker and wet than Bambi.

FromNowOn · 11/09/2018 13:34

Why would you do that?

Lulubelle15 · 11/09/2018 13:37

I rather like it and It's also the name of my best friends niece. As long as you and your oh like it that's all that matters.

Ontopofthesunset · 11/09/2018 13:45

You can't compare Teddy, Poppy and Alfie to Bambi!

Ted/Teddy is a long established, hundreds-of-year-old diminutive of Edward and is also commonly used as a diminutive of Theodore. Poppy is a flower which fits into a long tradition of flower naming - Lily, Rose, Marguerite, Daisy. Alfie is a simple shortening of the name Alfred which is an old Saxon name.

Bambi is the name of a male cartoon fawn.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/09/2018 14:24

Unless you're Katie Price I wouldn't.

moredoll · 11/09/2018 15:33

No. Suppose she wanted to a plumber or an astrophysicist.

TropicPlunder · 11/09/2018 15:37

What do you like about it OP? Why would you choose it?
My dog is called Bambi. Apart from her appearance, the word means something sympathetic in the language of the country we were living in when we got her.
Why do you like it for your child? Any special reason or association?

Sessy19 · 11/09/2018 15:42

I think it’s a lovely name.
It IS no different to the flower names or Teddy/Alfie/Elsa/Woody-esque names. They are overpowered by their ‘fairytale’ associations.
She’d probably be the only one in her class...

BevBrook · 11/09/2018 15:47

It makes me think of Dr Cox's nickname for JD in Scrubs.

Although on a similar note I do know a small boy called Sherlock... There was a small Sherlock in the leisure centre the other day. I wonder if it was the same one or if there are multiple Sherlocks.

PawneeParksDept · 11/09/2018 15:54

You CANNOT do that to a child

Her high school years would be a torment

RustyBear · 11/09/2018 15:55

My DD is Amber, she was nicknamed Bambi by her reception teacher. She wasn’t keen then (& neither was I) but was quite happy when it was revived by her friends as a teenager, though it quickly morphed into Bam and she is still known as that by a lot of her friends at the age of 28. I think she’d have hated it as her actual name.

AdaColeman · 11/09/2018 15:56

I think it's cute, but I'd feel sorry Dumbo in the sib-set.

Notquiteagandt · 11/09/2018 16:08

I know a bambi. Its a pet name. Shes a barbera and slovak. Aparently it such a common name there nicknames are more commly used.

Although 1st day in work place id be lying if you couldnt see a colective raised eyebrow when she introduced herself.

Lweji · 11/09/2018 17:28

If you do go with Bambi, at least give her a decent middle name that she can use instead.

Anythingforacatslife · 11/09/2018 17:36

There’s a teacher in a local school called Bambi and no one bats an eyelid, it’s just her name.

Sungura · 11/09/2018 17:38

Wow, so many snide comments. Not to say I disagree, I just prefer diplomacy. No, OP, please reconsider your choice. Bambi is not a name your child will grow out of. It is too babyish. As a nn for Barbara or Barbary, you can get by with it for her for toddler years. Beyond that, I fear she face teasing.

PippilottaLongstocking · 11/09/2018 17:44

bev the one I know is 5ish (I think, might be closer to 7/8) with long hair, could be the same one but it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a few now

PippilottaLongstocking · 11/09/2018 17:45

Also once met a nurse called Candy

BeyondMyThoughts · 11/09/2018 17:45

Someone asked about this name before...it didn't go down well

lovetherisingsun · 11/09/2018 17:45

Sorry, just snorted out my drink in laughter.

passwordfailure · 11/09/2018 17:52

Are you American? When I lived in the Midwest I knew a Bambi, Candi and a Misty. None of them strippers even, as far as I know.

Ontopofthesunset · 11/09/2018 17:59

What are the fairytale connotations of Alfie? It's been a while since I picked up my Brothers Grimm. Those other longstanding names are completely different as they have many other historical and literary referents (referents that are actual people too, not animals) - Ted in The Go Between, Alfred Lord Tennyson. Bambi only has the one referent in the UK in literature and film - the baby deer created by Felix Salten.

thethoughtfox · 11/09/2018 18:06

Stripper

charitypringle · 11/09/2018 18:49

I actually know two Bambi’s. One is an adult and likes it but she is a Bambi, lanky and edgy and beautiful.

The other is a child, short for Bamboo, no comment on that.
