Zachary with our surname...

Dh and I like the name Zachary, but I am worried about having a harsh 'c' or 'k' sound anywhere near our surname (replace the first letter of our surname with a 'c' and you get a very rude four letter word).

Dh says the swear word doesn't naturally occur unless forced but I'm unsure. What do you think?

I’m assuming it’s a surname you wouldn’t use Isaac with.

I think Zachary is OK but he is likely to end up as a Zac which probably isn’t.

Lancelottie · 11/09/2018 08:09

Zack Hunt? Don’t do it to him.

notheretoargue · 11/09/2018 08:09

If your surname is hunt, then no. The child will be called zac, whether or not you shorten his name yourselves.

Wolfiefan · 11/09/2018 08:10

Zac Hunt could cause an issue.
Not saying that's your surname but pointing out what happens when you shorten the first name. I wouldn't.

dancingbee · 11/09/2018 08:12

Hahha @SoupDragon. Yes Isaac is definitely not an option.

I think that Zachary is a great name but if your surname is Hunt then its really not a good idea.

I know a Michael Hunt. No one comments to his face, but still...

dancingbee · 11/09/2018 08:23

Pretty much as I thought... Before getting pregnant I didn't realise how many nice boys names have 'c' and 'k' sounds in them! It's only since I've started trying to form a list and say them out loud that I'm having to cross so many out 🙈

Icklepup · 11/09/2018 08:40

No

Cbeebiesrehab · 11/09/2018 08:55

Oh dear, it’s a shame but you really can’t.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/09/2018 14:27

No way.

Quangot · 11/09/2018 14:49

It's a no from me too.

What other names do you like?

Sessy19 · 11/09/2018 15:48

I don’t see why not, if you love the name.

Unfortunately there are just idiots out there who will probably make a deal out of whatever you name your child. They are the true c*s.

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 11/09/2018 15:51

No I don’t think you can use it Sad

Choccyhobnob · 11/09/2018 16:16

Nope, I don't think so. When I was pregnant my friend was also expecting and she had the same surname as you. My favourite boys name was Zachary and I thought at the time at least I don't have to worry about her using it!!

NataliaOsipova · 11/09/2018 16:19

Agree - Zach Hunt is a no no!

Pinkgeorge · 11/09/2018 16:22

Just don’t call him Issac

Lancelottie · 11/09/2018 16:23

Sessy, I assume you aren't serious.
It would only take one teacher to look up from the register and say 'Who's Zack Hunt?' for there to be riots.

Pinkgeorge · 11/09/2018 16:23

Isaac I mean !!

Lancelottie · 11/09/2018 16:25

How about Toby or Barnaby? Not a C in sight.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/09/2018 16:43

Definitely don't call him Isaac.

Or Michael (unless you enforce the NN Mickey instead of Mike)

NonaGrey · 11/09/2018 17:08

Unfortunately there are just idiots out there who will probably make a deal out of whatever you name your child.

Sessy it’s not about that. It’s not about being mean to the OP.

She asked the question because she was worried whether it was an obvious connection. Most people have said “yes”.

Children get teased about all sorts of things. It’s risky to provide any more ammunition than necessary.

One way round it OP might be to hyphenate if your name lent itself to that.

Zac McKenzie-Hunt (for example) isn’t such a target.

dancingbee · 11/09/2018 19:58

It's ok. I'm aware it was likely to be a no but wanted to get a consensus and will tell dh it is definitely off the list, along with any other names that have a c or k in them! And don't worry, I'm fully aware that Isaac and Mike are definitely not options 😂.

Other names I like are Owen, Samuel, Aiden and Finley. So hopefully one of those will be an option.

OP posts:
NonaGrey · 11/09/2018 20:00

Those names are all really good choices OP I particularly like Samuel and Aiden.

Icklepup · 11/09/2018 20:08

I like Samuel

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/09/2018 01:54

I really like Samuel , Aiden is nice too
