Opinions on the girls name Iliana please! It's on our shortlist but very different from our other choices of the very popular Sophie/Emily etc. Thanks

Pronounced Lee-ah-na?

Is there a reason for the double l at the beginning?

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 09/09/2018 21:49

I was reading the first letter as an i. If so, it's quite pretty but unusual.

Itchytights · 09/09/2018 21:50

I knew an Eliana..

Gorgeous little thing and I love the name.

CarolDanvers · 09/09/2018 21:52

Its not an L it's an I, It's IL-e-ahh-na isn't it? I know a little one. It's not a name I would choose but it is pretty. I know an Elyana too.

chasinggarlic · 09/09/2018 21:53

L or I ?

I can't tell from that if you mean 'ill-ee-ah-nah' or 'Lee-anna'

DumbledoresApprentice · 09/09/2018 21:59

It’s a beautiful name as long as you don’t mind the confusion about whether it begins with an I or an L. I know a Iulia and she gets all sorts of mad pronunciations (Hoolia, Loolia, eye-oolia).

screwthepyramids · 09/09/2018 22:13

I named my youngest Liliana after a character from the dragon age games Blush

Rebe90 · 09/09/2018 22:14

Thanks for the replies - it's with an i so would be il - e - an - nah if that makes sense 😊

Iliana is beautiful.

Movablefeast · 10/09/2018 03:45

Yes very beautiful and not typical which is always a plus.

SD1978 · 10/09/2018 04:21

any cultural connection to the name? I've only met very stern Spanish and Romanian ladies with the name, who terrified me somewhat! I feel it's quite a hard name.

Josiebloggs · 10/09/2018 04:25

I like it but can't help but read or hear llama.

Sungura · 10/09/2018 06:01

Pretty. If you want a name that can mature with your baby and that is unique, this is nice indeed. I see no confusion whatsoever.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 10/09/2018 06:06

I know one, she's lovely and so is the name 😊

Cbeebiesrehab · 10/09/2018 07:47

Really like it!

Quangot · 10/09/2018 07:47

I don't really like the "ill" sound at the start, so would prefer Liliana or Juliana.

schopenhauer · 10/09/2018 07:49

Don’t like the ‘ill’ bit at the beginning. Alannah maybe?

FromNowOn · 10/09/2018 13:06

I know a (grown up) Eliana, it’s a love name.

FromNowOn · 10/09/2018 13:06

*lovely

MadMaryBoddington · 10/09/2018 21:41

Too fussy for me. Not keen.

Ngaio2 · 10/09/2018 23:08

When typed the initial “I” looks like an “l” so looks like it starts with a double L. So in a waiting room the receptionist willl more likely call out Liana. If you want something fancier than Liana you can avoid this by calling her Liliana.

Goostacean · 11/09/2018 01:56

I find the confusion with I/L hard to fathom, surely names are always written with a capital letter?

I think it’s a lovely name, but I do find myself assuming an Eastern European connection. It’s very pretty in English, and unusual but not bizarre.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/09/2018 09:32

It's on our fields name list, DH really loves it. It's one of the mutants in the new generation of X Men with a movie due in the next few years so will possibly get more popular.
We just struggled over what to shorten it to - Illy would be my fear. Yo, Ill!
We were gonna got with Ilyanna for nn Yana

Madmarchpear · 11/09/2018 09:34

I have never heard it but think it's nice. Great name for a child and adult. I'd love to be an Iliana!

Changedmynametoolikeyou · 11/09/2018 10:04

I know an Iliana, an Ilana, an Elana, an Eliana and a Leanna. I like all these names. Iliana is very pretty.
