A friend wants to call her baby Eva. Without thinking, I said it is very popular right now and there will be lots of others with the same name. Actually I was muddling it with Evie but are a lot of Evas too?

Eva/Ava/Evie they're all the same to me. So unimaginative and boring. But if she likes it then it's up to her I guess.

Eva/Ava/Evie are so incredibly boring.

They're way too overused and it's a name that will not set her apart from the others. It's a 'blend into the background' name.

I'd think 'oh not another one' if one of my friends/family used one of those names.

I'd also think the parents had not even a speck of imagination

Is it her first baby?

I have a theory that people hear the likes of Eva/ Olivia/ Noah/ Harry and think they’re lovely (which they are) and unusual (which they aren’t) because they don’t know any themselves or they were uncommon names for their generation at school.

Then they join a baby massage group/ Baby sensory or their child starts nursery and they realise that actually, they are very very frequently used for their child’s generation.

I think Eva is more unusual but she probably would get Evie. I think Evie is so common because people call their child Eve, Eva, Evelyn and Evie and they all get Evie. The Evies I know are Evelyn.
