Help narrow down our short/medium list

So we have decided upon Winnie (Winona on her BC but never called that) for if we have a DD. But we are still struggling with a large list of boys names. We already have an Arthur Hugh, Lorcan Robert and John Thomas.

We’re thinking of either Patrick or Nicholas as the middle name.

The names we like are Cormac, Elric, Angus, Douglas, Fergus, Edmund, Francis, Ralph, Charles, Edward, Frederick, George.

Could you help narrow this down. We are still open to more suggestions.

AnyaMoondial · 05/09/2018 19:47

DC06 · 05/09/2018 19:48

I like Arthur, Cormac, Charles and Nicholas best from your list x

abbie7 · 05/09/2018 19:48

Pollydidntputthekettleon · 05/09/2018 19:49

Oh and I love Patrick as a middle name

KIMv · 05/09/2018 19:50

Douglas Patrick 💕

Flamingosnbears · 05/09/2018 22:18

Quintin??... From your list I agree Douglas Patrick is a good name.

Allycumpooster · 05/09/2018 22:20

I love Elric

NonJeNeRegretteRien · 05/09/2018 22:20

Cormac or Angus

Congrats!

SleepWarrior · 05/09/2018 22:23

I like Douglas, Edmund and Ralph the best.

ReginaPhalange89 · 05/09/2018 22:34

I love Angus.

Angus Patrick would be lovely.

LarkDescending · 05/09/2018 22:41

I really like:

Douglas Patrick
Edmund Nicholas
Edmund Patrick

hellsbells552 · 05/09/2018 22:55

I would eliminate Cormac, Fergus and Francis - Cormac is a tad like Lorcan, Fergus next to Patrick sounds VERY Irish (unless that’s what you’re going for!) and too many s’s with Nicholas, same for Francis.

I love Winona and it’s now going on my list! 🙂

ilovepixie · 05/09/2018 22:59

John Thomas 😂😂😂

Heavystream · 05/09/2018 23:08

Thank you all! We’ve still got a few months of considering yet but think we’re either gonna go with Elric (I know it hasn’t got many votes but I love it), Cormac or Douglas.
Don’t get me started @ilovepixie John is my grandads name so DH was adamant to use his grandads as a middle name!. He kept convincing nobody will know his middle name and I was off my face on gas and air when we named him.

John Thomas??? Shock

You do know what a John Thomas is??

Pollydidntputthekettleon · 05/09/2018 23:54

Heratnumber7- OP's son is already named that- don't poke fun at it now it's already been used. It's quite niche anyway and the vast majority of people won't know what it means.

Heavystream · 06/09/2018 00:10

@Heratnumber7 if you read the post above yours you’ll see that I do know, and we have a reason for it. He will very rarely go by his full name and there is no reason that any peers would ever know it. So it would be very unlikely that he would be made fun of.

Yep yep. Read the post of explanation after I'd posted myself.
Honestly though OP, I'd be looking to change my son's name in your shoes. Thomas John would be better. You could still call him John. Lots of people go by their middle name.

Thistles24 · 06/09/2018 04:40

I have no idea what the issue with John Thomas is- I think it’s a nice name!

Peachbubble · 06/09/2018 06:51

Angus Patrick gets my vote

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 06/09/2018 07:05

Francis, Angus and Fergus are my favourites.

I kno you didn't ask, but... such (by and large) solid traditional boys' names and then Winona/Winnie? I'd honestly rethink that one. Hardly seems fair on her.

And yes, you might want to think about giving John a retrospective extra middle name - before Thomas.

Thurlow · 06/09/2018 07:28

We have a Douglas nn Dougie so I'm biased but it's a great name

Cbeebiesrehab · 06/09/2018 07:29

You’re right, she didn’t ask...

Heavystream · 06/09/2018 07:54

We aren’t going for names that ‘go’. If we had John, George, James and Kai because they’re names that we like then we’d go with that. It just so happens that we like Arthur, Lorcan and John as well as Winnie. I think as much as Winnie isn’t necessarily traditional it’s still quite old fashioned. But as you’ve said, I didn’t ask, already decided upon a name and are asking for your help regarding the boys list I’ve posted.

I’m glad you’re not in my shoes then. We’re happy with my sons name, we won’t go through the haste of changing it. As I’ve said nobody around here calls it a John Thomas. He will never go by the name John Thomas. So if you aren’t here to give me opinions on the boys name list I posted then please don’t comment.

I haven’t come asking for opinions of my 2 year old sons name, that we already love and will never consider changing.

Thank you to everyone that’s gave me helpful answers.
