Willow, Violet or Annie

I need help! We are down to three names and time is ticking.

Willlow - by far my favourite but DS1 is William (we call him Billy 99% of the time). Too similar?
Violet - family significance, but doesn’t flow great with our frigative surname
Annie - boring but I do like but can’t quite picture it on my own child

Help! Also open to suggestions!

I think William and willow are too similar. Violet is lovely.

Annabelle, Anneliese or Anna are all lovely and Annie could be a nickname?

Sunshine365 · 05/09/2018 05:02

Willow is too similar to William (you could have it as a middle name though)
I like Violet

RavenWings · 05/09/2018 07:41

Willow and William are way too alike.
I'd be leaning towards something like Anne or Anneliese (not Anna, too common) and using Annie as a nickname. Violet is nice too.

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/09/2018 07:54

You can't have a William and a Willow. Well you can but people will look at you oddly.

I love Annie

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/09/2018 08:52

Hmm my favourite is Willow but it's too similar to William. Willow and Billy is just about ok but I think you'd end up saying Willy and Billow.

Not a fan of Violet and really dislike Annie.

Anna is gorgeous though.

Peachbubble · 05/09/2018 09:04

Agree Willow is too similar to William. Not a fan of Annie at all, prefer Annabel, Anna. Really like Violet.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/09/2018 09:33

Willow is lovely, I would use it, if you call your son Billy.

BigBlueBubble · 05/09/2018 09:45

I like Violet. I shortlisted it for DS if he was a girl. Something like Annabel with nn Annie would be nice too. We got round the issue of the surname not flowing by using a middle name. Like Jamie Lee Curtis for example - the middle name is used in full.

RedDwarves · 05/09/2018 10:05

Annie Willow.

You can't have a William and a Willow, and you can't have a Violet Willow as it's too much of a descriptor.

Reebeetee · 05/09/2018 10:07

I'd go for Anne or Anneliese with Annie as a nickname.
Annie is obviously a name in its own right and would suit a woman of any age but I personally would use Annie as a nickname.

Violet is also very nice and again, ages well. Could you give us some kind of clue about your surname? Because we all might say to choose Violet but it might sound awful with your surname

SpectacularAardvark · 05/09/2018 10:14

How about Vanessa? You could call her Vannie, a kind of Violet/Annie mashup!

Flamingosnbears · 05/09/2018 11:33

Doesn't matter if they are alike what matters is that you love the name they are two individuals at the end of the day...
Willow and William is cute as they are connected a nice way of honouring each other also Willow could have Willa nn which is just adorable.

ReginaPhalange89 · 05/09/2018 11:48

I actually think William and willow is ok ! Especially if he's mostly known as Billy

I do think violet is pretty too

It doesn't sound like Annie is really a proper option if you can't picture it so id forget about that one probably. I like Anna/Analise though .

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 05/09/2018 12:01

Anna or Annabel with Annie as a nickname.

Cosmoa · 05/09/2018 13:47

I love them all! Two of my good friends have young daughters named Willow and Violet and my mother is called Annie ❤️

strawberrypenguin · 05/09/2018 13:52

Sorry but you can't have Willow and William, they're much to similar.
Of your other options I'd pick Annie

LeeMiller · 05/09/2018 16:21

Willow and William are much too similar.

Annie/Anna is nice. I prefer Viola to Violet (which sounds too much like violent to me).

Goostacean · 05/09/2018 16:33

Agree with pps, Willow is too similar to William.

I like Violet, but would want a name that goes with my surname. Agree that you should use Anna (SO beautiful), or Annalise/Annabelle instead of Annie.

What do you like about Willow? I ask because it'll help with suggestions. Is it the mental vision of a delicate tree, wispy, sort of thing (for me that conjures Luna, Coralie, Sylvie, Irene, Serena, Delilah)? Or the nature element (Lily, Ivy, Hazel, Aurora, Jade, Ruby)? Or the sounds?

Hyperbolesoul · 05/09/2018 16:38

I have a Violet- so I'm bias but it's a gorgeous wee name
She was to be Ivy....but she didnt look like one! You will know when you see bub

SemperIdem · 05/09/2018 17:19

I would use Anne and nickname her Annie. Annie doesn’t sound right for an adult woman. I’ve known lots of Anna’s and they have always been Anna, never nicknamed Annie.

Violet - I want to like it but it reminds me of violent and Violet from Willy Wonka.

Willow is too similar to William and will date. Winter might work?

MeyMary · 05/09/2018 17:59

You could get away with William and Willow if you're 100% sure you won't be having more children. (As in, getting a vasectomy and tube tied sure...)

But it's still not my cup of tea.

Violet is fine but it does feel a bit trendy.

Annie is a bit childish but I love it as a nn for Anne or Anna...

DC06 · 05/09/2018 18:02

Violet is lovely. Definitely my favourite x

CorneliusCrackers · 05/09/2018 18:03

Annabel with a nickname of Annie?

summerlovingliz · 05/09/2018 18:06

Violet Smile
