What do people think? It's Welsh for star. DH is 1/4 Welsh, his grandmother (most beloved and now gone) had a very welsh name which she hated but we'd like to honor her in some way.

Beautiful name

leghairdontcare · 02/09/2018 21:19

I'm assuming you don't live in Wales?

It's fine but I think it's one of those names that is becoming boring because they're used by people who want something Welsh but not too Welsh.

Xiaoxiong · 02/09/2018 21:20

Gorgeous and one of my all time favourite names. My DSs would have been either Seren, Olwen or Karenza if they'd turned out DDs.

goose1964 · 02/09/2018 21:21

Love it, if I'd had DGD it would have been her middle name

Sandstormbrewing · 02/09/2018 21:23

No, we don't live in Wales and its unlikely we ever will leghairdontcare DHs gran had a very Welsh name, which she hated due to its welshness but was also very proud of her welsh heritage.

Can't tempt you with Briallen then?

daydream86 · 02/09/2018 21:36

Beautiful it’s my girls middle name and I love it. sometimes I secretly wish she’ll choose to go by her middle name when she’s older! go for it x

Sandstormbrewing · 02/09/2018 21:43

Not really leghairdontcare!

It's actually quite sad as I really like DGMs name but it's marred by how much she hated it!

It’s very popular around here, we are in Wales though.

TeaAndNoSympathy · 02/09/2018 21:49

Beautiful name.

LanaorAna2 · 02/09/2018 21:51

Isn't it one letter off that malt loaf you get in corner shops? Sereen? Smal kids' fave, will she get teased?

ICJump · 02/09/2018 21:52

It’s on my list for this baby. This I’ll hang around in case of other lovely names being mentioned

Sandstormbrewing · 02/09/2018 21:53

LanaorAna2 kids get teased for all sorts of things, but Seren being compared to soreen? I doubt it.

Sessy19 · 02/09/2018 21:55

It’s Soreen malt loaf. And Seren is a completely different sound.

I think there have been several threads about the name here recently.

It’s a pretty name. But very popular, both in Wales and along the border. It’s a bit ‘Megan’, but it’s pretty.

I know a Seren she is my daughters class at school, her mum is welsh and it is a beautiful name 🤩

5krunning · 02/09/2018 22:13

How's it pronounced?

Sandstormbrewing · 02/09/2018 22:14

5krunning exactly as it's spelled. Like the first half of serenade.

I was actually going to call my daughter Lydia as it was my GM middle name, when I suggested this too her I was greeted with " Oh what an awful name! I hope too god you don't name her that! "....my response....😳..." but it is your middle name, how can you call it awful?"....GM " never have liked it nor will I ever , it is awful!"
So I named her HONAH (pronounced Honour)...she liked that!
Anyways my friend was pregnant with a girl and she had the name Faith right the way through her pregnancy, she gave birth rang me and told me she decided Lydia instead, ( never said what my thought of it didn't Chris my mind) so I was out shopping in local shops with GM, seen my friend with baby, GM asks what you did you name her?....me🙊...friend tells GM Lydia!...to which she responded " What a awful name, poor kid!"...🙈...oh that moment we're you want the world to swallow you up!...Thank god my friend just bursted our laughing ...and thought my GM was cool at honest she is...🙈...

My GM has passed now and apart of me does wish that I should of put Lydia as her middle name at least..😢...but she would of detested it!..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sunflower321 · 03/09/2018 08:11

Beautiful name!

Frazzled2207 · 03/09/2018 08:25

I'm a welsh speaker, be aware that the English/welsh pronunciations are not exactly the same. Welsh is better.
Rolled r
Second e is exactly the same as the first one- both like the e in egg.

English speaker tend to pronounce it like Serun rather than Seren.
