Baby name dilemma

Ladies...

So I’m due in November, and when I found out I was expecting a girl I chose the name
Ocie-may (oh-see-may)
I was very happy with my choice along side with my 6 year old daughter who’s name is shyla Lucy (shy-la-Lucy)

Anyhow, recently my pops has fallen ill and thought the name poppy-may would be lovely and it’s made him so happy tbh.

Anyway. Shyla is not happy about this. She is adamant her baby sister is called ocie-may.

Not entirely sure what to do.

Someone suggested Poppi Ociella

(Poppy -oh-see-Ella )

Thoughts please.

Out of your choices I’d go with your fathers- Poppy May. Personally wouldn’t hyphenate it, but I think the other names sound a bit made up, sorry. Would also go for the traditional spelling of Poppy, rather than with an “i” . As for your 6 year old, tough! She’ll get her chance to name her own babies. I’m currently 38 weeks pregnant and my DC have picked the most awful hyphenated name for the baby. My compromise was they can call him that while he’s still inside me, once he’s born he’ll get his real name and only DH and myself will pick that. They’ll be so blown away by an actual baby that they won’t care his name isn’t Declan-DudleyHmm Grin

Poppy May would be nice. Never heard of Ocie, is it made up?

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 30/08/2018 12:15

Why spell it Poppi? Literally everyone will spell her name wrong her whole life. Ocie isn’t a name. Names with ‘may’ attached are so ridiculously overdone and boring now.

Poppy is a lovely name. Call her that.

SemperIdem · 30/08/2018 12:15

Ocie? That sounds like a noise rather than a name.

Choose Poppy. Your other daughter is 6, she doesn’t get a say.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 30/08/2018 12:24

Sorry your pops is unwell. It's generous of you to let him have input in naming the baby.

If you and your little girl were so keen on Ocie-May from the start, why not drop the hyphen and just add Poppi or Poppy to it? So, Ocie Poppi May or Ocie May Poppi.

Poppy.

Your other daughter is 6 and old enough to understand if you explain why you changed your mind. She knows you're the adult in charge so will accept it. Or do what a PP suggested and let her call her Ocie before she's born on the understanding she gets her real name of Poppy once she is born.

Is Ocie a real name? I've never heard of it before.

Seeyounexttue · 30/08/2018 12:59

I know Ocie was a name pre-1900, but even then it was unpopular. Used today it does look made up, and spelling/pronunciation may end up being an issue

ReginaPhalange89 · 30/08/2018 14:07

I'd go with Poppy.
Ocie sounds made up.
And the Mae part is so over done I'm sick of hearing it to be quite honest , sorry ! Every other girl is something-Mae or something-grace Hmm

Poppy on its own is lovely.

ReginaPhalange89 · 30/08/2018 14:08

Oh and if we all let our kids choose baby names they'd all be named after princesses or super heros.... She doesn't get a say lol

Nic010 · 30/08/2018 22:04

Love all your responses thank you!!

And ocie is a old fashioned name just not a popular one! Xx

Not keen on Ocie or Ociella. It looks and sounds a bit strange.
Poppy is nice. May is a bit throwaway as a mn.

BlueSky198080 · 30/08/2018 22:24

Really dislike the name. Go with Poppy.

I’m usually all for unusual names but yours just sounds made up- The Real Houseives of Orange County- OC, that’s all it reminds me of🤷🏻‍♀️And not in a good way.

NapQueen · 30/08/2018 22:25

Why does your 6yo get a say?

Yumyumpigs · 30/08/2018 22:33

My 6 yr old nephew wanted to call my twin girks Jesus and Marcel.... lol at least yours aren't THAT ott. Love Poppy

Enko · 30/08/2018 22:51

Normally I am firmly in the " pick the more unusual name" camp but I got to admit here I think you should go with Poppy.

For me Ocie-May is just ripe for lots of teasing
" Ohh see mAY- Do you SEE me?? there is a whole load of rhyme possibilities there.

moredoll · 31/08/2018 02:26

Buy Shyla a doll she can call Ocie May.
