Emilia vs Amelia

We really like the name Amelia for our baby girl but DHs cousin has a four year old named Amelia, we only see this cousin once or twice a year. So we thought of Emilia to make it a bit different? Is this name still to similiar and would a cousins child stop you using that name?

I wouldnt use a baby name that a relative has and would probably be a bit annoyed if a relative used one of my kids names, not enough to mention it ever but I would think they should have thought of their own name.
I do prefer Emilia to Amelia though and you could always use a nickname like Milly/Emma/Emmy which would make it different

I thought you were saying the child's cousin was Amelia, but cousin's child... I personally think that is distant enough. I do much prefer Emelia to Amelia myself.

they are both really common. Is there nothing else you like?

We’ve got three cousins called Ben and two lily’s, I don’t think it matters. I like Emelia though

I don't think Emília is different enough to Amelia to make it worth using. If you like Amelia go for it. I love the name Emília but I think people would often mishear it as Amelia and the child would have to constantly correct people, that would be really annoying.

There are loads of Amelia's. Though if you use. Emilia, be prepared to have your DD called Amelia in a regular basis.

I thought they were the same name tbh and Emilia was a new weird spelling variant of it. Had no idea the were different. I wouldn’t use Amelia with the familial link.

My ds has same name as his cousin. Dh has loads of cousins with same name so he didn't see it as an issue.
