What are your thoughts on the name Finch for a boy?

I don’t like it. Sounds like pinch.

30hours · 24/08/2018 20:07

Dire.

JUDGE finch XXX
DOCTOR finch XXX
teacher FINCH

If you want to aim low go for it.

Helpmeyouyetti · 24/08/2018 20:07

I like it.
My school friend was named finch.
He was a lovely sweet boy.

Slartybartfast · 24/08/2018 20:07

like a bird
not a name

ReginaPhalange89 · 24/08/2018 20:11

Immediately thought of the guy in American Pie that screwed stifflers mom 😂 it's a surname to me
Cute nn but dunno about a first name

EdWinchester · 24/08/2018 20:15

Wanky.

Greeneyedgeek83 · 24/08/2018 20:15

No

Lauren0rder · 24/08/2018 20:16

Awful

bychoiceornot · 24/08/2018 20:18

Immediate connotation for me is 'Shitbreak' from American Pie. I'm sure that'll be a generational thing, but just my 2 penneth!

Liquoricelake · 24/08/2018 20:18

It's awful. It sounds like a hard drinking, worn out 70s TV detective to me.

HonkyWonkWoman · 24/08/2018 20:19

No! No! No!

LastOneDancing · 24/08/2018 20:19

Quite like it for a little boy and as he grows up, everyone will assume it's his surname.

If you're ok with that it's ok.

Cbeebiesrehab · 24/08/2018 20:21

30 are you suggesting being a teacher is ‘aiming low’ Hmm

Finch isn’t good, sorry.

FourAlarmFire · 24/08/2018 20:23

I like it but it makes me think of Finch in Person of Interest.

sexnotgender · 24/08/2018 20:24

Dreadful Confused

Hippopotas · 24/08/2018 20:25

Sounds like a guy who would shank you in prison

daisypond · 24/08/2018 20:25

I rather like it. It's a name that shouts To Kill A Mockingbird to me - like Atticus, Jem, etc. It's the surname of the family. The smallness of the bird might put me off for a boy, though.

ZeroFuchsiasGiven · 24/08/2018 20:26

It makes me think of To Kill a Mockingbird, which is a good association, but Atticus is a much better name if that's the link you're after. Alternatively, Charles Darwin was a world expert on finches. It was studying finches that led him to formulate the theory of evolution, I believe. Darwin would be a good name.

PassportBridgetPants · 24/08/2018 20:36

I considered it myself but DH just thought of Finch from The Office, who was awful.

SoftSheen · 24/08/2018 20:51

Small, twittery and fluttery...

Abs99 · 24/08/2018 20:57

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 24/08/2018 22:07
