Margot? Middle names?

Pretty sure we’re set on this name as feel it’d elegant and spunky but aren’t sure on a middle name. We’re thinking of Evangeline and maybe Elizabeth but other suggestions are welcome. DH has mentioned concerns with it being similar to maggot but am I being stupid for thinking that it doesn’t matter as any name can be made fun of if you try

I LOVE the name Margot! I had it vetoed by my own DH.

Middle names are, if not a family name, usually an “also ran”? So go with what you like best - do either of those have a story or sentimentality to you?

Thesearmsofmine · 23/08/2018 23:08

Margot Elizabeth is lovely Smile

Magot is the first thing that comes to my mind. In all honesty it’s one of those names when chatting to friends that falls into the ‘who would name their child that?’. But apparently it’s popular.....

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 23/08/2018 23:09

I like the sound of it but it looks too much like maggot.

Margot is beautiful.
Personally think a second name starting with a consonant, rather than a vowel, runs off the tongue better.

Elizabeth was my first thought from your thread title!

Margot really only goes with the name Ledbetter, but it’s none the worse for that. I would couple it with something of three/four syllables (eg Elizabeth, Evelyn, Georgina, Isabella) but of course a family middle name is always preferable if there is one which sounds good.

Margot Elise
Margot Christina
Margot Emily
Margot Georgina

Margot Elizabeth is lovely! Margot Rose, Margot Louise, also work. How does it go with your surname?

bridgetreilly · 24/08/2018 08:13

Agreed with pp that a middle name beginning with a consonant works better. Also, the maggot thing is ridiculous. It doesn't sound the same. I've literally never heard of a child called Margot being teased with the name Maggot.

Margot Joy
Margot Penelope
Margot Dawn
Margot Claire

It depends on how you pronounce Margot. If it's the French way (without the t) then a middle name starting with s consonant sounds better.
If it's pronounced Mar-got, then Elizabeth is nicer.

BigRedBoat · 24/08/2018 08:20

Sunflower321 does anyone pronounce Margot with a t at the end?

Sunflower321 · 24/08/2018 08:23

Yes, in most Germanic languages. I know a couple of German Margots who are both Mar-gott.

It's the French who don't pronounce the t.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 24/08/2018 08:25

Margot Juliet

Lucylookingforhelp · 24/08/2018 21:26

Love Margot Nora and Margot Penelope but DH is leaning towards Margot Evangeline and since I chose Margot and I do like the name we may go with that

@sunflower321 we’d be pronouncing it the French way x (I think most people in the UK do, at least I hope so Hmm)
