Dexter, Jude or something else?

Had decided on Tabitha for a girl, but baby is a boy. There aren't really any boy names that I really love. I want something not too fashionable or faddy, but also not so common that there will be five in his class at school. I like traditional names but they are so common, DH is James, DB is Matthew, we are likely to use George as a middle name (my grandfather). So my question is are names like Dexter and Jude a bit too on the nose and will seem dated in future, or get super common? When we take DN out Isabella, every other child being called for is Bella, that's not something we want either. Ugh it's difficult! Also surname is F-S double barreled, think fletcher-spenny, so no F names (FFS...) . Help!

Jude isn't to my tastes but there's nothing wrong with it.

Dexter is terrible though - it sounds like the name of a very naughty boy or a dangerous dog.

Sophronia · 23/08/2018 15:18

I think Dexter will date, Jude less so.

What about Hugo, Simon, Simeon?

Laconia234 · 23/08/2018 15:18

(I know a Tabitha with a brother called Hugo)

Laconia234 · 23/08/2018 15:18

Isaac, Reuben?

FASH84 · 23/08/2018 15:56

We have a close friend Hugo so it would seem a little odd, also two uncles one on each side called Simon, and I'm not a fan of that or Simeon to be honest. Reuben is incredibly common in this area, and I think will date, much like Arlo, or Logan etc. It's so tricky with boys! I suppose I'd really like to go with something very traditional, but am struggling to do that without it being very popular or the name of a close friend or relative.
I quite like Jasper but DH vetoed, and I like Seb but Sebastian is quite a mouthful along with our surname.

Dexter will date and sounds very American. Jude is classic (but with big peaks and troughs in terms of popularity).

I liked Dexter when I was pregnant with DS but was put off it by people mentioning things like the poindexter cow and Dexter’s lab.

I called DS Jude Grin. You obviously have GREAT taste.

daisypond · 23/08/2018 18:41

I like Jude. I'm not keen on Dexter, but it's OK.
Luke and Miles are both good.

Laconia234 · 23/08/2018 19:14

Joshua?

Cbeebiesrehab · 23/08/2018 19:59

Jude is traditional, biblical whilst still being short and cool sounding. Perfect boys name to meGrin (but if course I am totally biasedWink )

Something else. You might like to double-barrel it. You could join it but it might not fit on forms
Something-Else Fash has a ring to it.

Jude is a great name

I heard a little boy being called Hector today which I hadn't heard before but love.

Cheeseplantandpickle · 23/08/2018 21:21

My Ds would’ve been Tabitha. He’s a Rufus.

We have both Tabitha and Dexter on our names list. I'd go for Dexter :)
