Aurora & Sebastian

Would you think parents of an Aurora and Sebastian were big Disney fans? Is it an obvious connection between the two or am I over thinking it?

Our eldest is Aurora (not named after the Disney princess lol) and we're considering Sebastian if we have a boy this time around. We have two other children whose names aren't associated with Disney too (to my knowledge anyway lol) Thanks!

I know Aurora as Italian. She has Italian named siblings. On her own I'd think sleeping beauty though.

Up to you. Are you a huge Disney fan?

kenandbarbie · 21/08/2018 20:24

I don't remember a princess Aurora, which was she?

Sebastian doesn't remind me of Disney at all, I know it's the crab in the little mermaid, but it wouldn't be what I'd think of. I don't like the name though, I find it a bit 'wet'. I like it as the nn Seb though.

ASAS · 21/08/2018 20:24

Just realised Aurora and Sebastian would have 2 non Disney siblings, which changes everything and makes the entire Disney link less obvious!

HildaOgdensFlyingDucks · 21/08/2018 20:25

I didn't think of Disney, I just thought they were gorgeous names, especially together

kenandbarbie · 21/08/2018 20:25

I do have a neighbor who is a bit overweight and wears purple who is called Ursula though. I always get her song stuck in my head if I have to talk to her about anything Smile

pixieloux · 21/08/2018 20:28

I mean, Disney's great but I wouldn't class myself as a fan, @ASAS lol. I'm not sure if it's something I want to come across as through our children's names either.

Sleeping Beauty, @kenanfbarbie and wet is fine... My son and youngest daughter's names (and her nickname) have firm places on the wet thread lol. We're passed worrying about that lol. They're far from wet in personality lol.

@kenandbarbie the poor unfortunate soul!

I never knew sleeping beauty was called aurora!!!

MalachisMum1 · 21/08/2018 20:37

It wouldn't spring to my mind immediately but I might consider that. Sleeping beauty name being Aurora isn't that well known. I think if it were Ariel and Sebastian it would be silly lol x

pixieloux · 21/08/2018 20:41

I'm shocked that Aurora is not well known as Sleeping Beauty's name. It's been the most common association we've had with her name... Maybe that's because Disney will be popular to her peers and therefore their parents.

Yeah, I've only got girls. So I'm not really well up on the names of the princesses!!!

AliceRR · 21/08/2018 20:49

Aurora is on my list of baby names and not because I’m a Disney fan. I actually didn’t know who Aurora was until I watched Once Upon a Time. But I like the name and I like the possibility of shortening it to Rory or Rorie

pixieloux · 21/08/2018 20:54

@AliceRR I don't know whether it's because it's not as popular here but we've gotten the Disney thing a lot. I love her name so much so it doesn't take away from it but no, we didn't name our first born daughter after a Disney princess lol. I would never associate Sebastian with Disney otherwise but I wonder if people would with Aurora as his big sister.

Goostacean · 21/08/2018 20:56

Didn’t even occur to me as I read the thread title... I’m 27, if that helps.

Strawberry2017 · 21/08/2018 21:00

Sebastian makes me think of the never ending story too, but either way a fabulous name.
I like Aurora too.
People will always find something to say about any name picked so don't worry about it. X

Thiswayorthatway · 21/08/2018 21:07

Aurora Borealis - the Northern Lights was my first thought.

ParadiseLaundry · 21/08/2018 21:12

@kenandbarbie she was also known as Briar Rose when she was hidden to confuse you even more so she had three names!

I love the name Sebastian, I probably would make their Disney connection, but only because I'm a big fan. Aurora was also the only girls name I considered when i was pg but we had a boy. You have good taste op Smile

N0bodysM0t · 21/08/2018 21:13

I was going to post way. too. disney. and then I saw that you already know that !

I find Aurora quite hard to say.

pixieloux · 21/08/2018 21:18

We already have Aurora, she's 6 and we've never had any issues with pronunciation - maybe we're just lucky as I have seen people say it a lot.

Nope, I wouldn’t make the link at all.

Shambu · 21/08/2018 21:52

Aurora and Sebastian are great names. Disney wouldn't even cross my mind.

bridgetreilly · 21/08/2018 21:58

My first thought before opening the thread was 'Are you naming children or casting a Disney film?' So I think there's your answer.

ZebraKid71 · 21/08/2018 23:13

I would make the link, but not if you have two other children with non character names. Also aurora seems to be quite popular at the moment, and I know a couple of baby Sebastian -links never seem to be as obvious with popular names.

Sebastian is lovely, I'd go for it.

Also, if you shorten them and they are aurora and seb, or Rory and seb I would never make the connection.

Shambu · 21/08/2018 23:30

There are 1000s of people in the world who don't give a flying fuck about Disney and don't really engage with it.

FartnissEverbeans · 22/08/2018 10:22

I know both films but I wouldn’t think Disney.

I absolutely love Aurora btw. Gorgeous name.

I actually know a little girl called Briar! And I quite like it
