For a boy?

I have a family name in mind that I think is absolutely beautiful, but in my mind it's a girls name. Upon researching I've seen it tends to be classed as a boys name.

"August".

Inevitably I feel like this will be shortened to Gus, which I don't like.

What do you think of August as a boys name and are there any other NNs that would work?

Or should I save it for if I ever have a little girl because I know 100% that is what I would call her if I did. But if I don't ever get to have a little girl, I won't be able to use the family name I love so much.

Thanks!

I love the name August. I have heard it shortened to Auggie if you don't like Gus.

I don't like it but I like Augustus and gus, Gussie!

Love it! I prefer it for a boy, actually, but if you prefer it for a girl why not save it for your last child (unless you have a girl before that) and use no matter the sex. I can see it for either.

I like it for a boy. Augusta is the feminine form.

I have a godson named Augustus and he's known as Gus. Could also be Auggie?
Personally, I'd use it! It's a wonderful name and who knows what the future holds! For me it's a strong and proud name and works brilliantly for a boy.

It's fine.

Don't like it for either tbh, but I'd save it for a girl if I were you . Pretty sure it'd be shortened to Gus

I like August and Augustus but do immediately think boy. Have you seen the film wonder? The main character is a lovely boy called Augustus that goes by Auggie x

Quangot · 21/08/2018 10:13

Augustus Gloop isn't the best association though...

Love it. Also like the German pronunciation, which is more like Ow-gust than Or-gust.

pipilangstrumpf · 21/08/2018 11:59

Love August! Strong, cool and not overused.

The ones I've met tend to be August or Auggie.

The emphasis is on the first syllable, isn't it.

pipilangstrumpf · 21/08/2018 12:00

Oh, definitely a boys name!

Augustine or Augusta are feminine versions
