Is it just me?

I only like to look at threads re: girls names?

I have no interest in boys names. I have a son (love his name and it is perfect for him!) But I get zero excitement about boys names. Here or in RL

I am always intrigued about girls names though.

I have x2 DD as well as DS so I've had my experience with naming babies.

Why do I prefer girls names? Is it just me?

Not just you. Boys names are less interesting and I think because I have 2 boys I'm done with thinking of them and it's harder now but I bet I'll have another boy and be stuck on his name even when he's here lol

BertieBotts · 17/08/2018 00:20

I find boys names much harder as well. IMO 99% of them are either dull or just awful.

Then there are a few which are okay but I don't love.

There are a miniscule number (probably about 3) that I absolutely love however invariably DH hates these. Sigh.

In comparison there are lots of girls names that I like enough, and not loads but more that I love. And DH seems to have nice overlap, which helps.

Haha, I'm the opposite. I got obsessed with names while expecting DS1 and since then can just never muster up any interest in girls names!

NicknameMustbeBetween4and30Cha · 17/08/2018 00:26

If a thread title isn't gender specific (i.e. "Thoughts on my shortlist") and I click on it and then see a list of girls names only, I just press back. I'm outta there.

Crunchymum · 17/08/2018 08:12

I do the same Nickname but with threads on boys names Grin

I'm the opposite, obsessed with boys names! Leave a thread if it's girls, zero interest.

Icklepup · 17/08/2018 13:51

I love boys names probably because I think it's harder to find a really nice boys name and it's fun to find one. Girls names are a bit boring to me sometimes but I like both.

:)

Boys names are a nightmare, I have 4 weeks left and liked Elliot all along now I don’t 🤷🏻‍♀️

fieryginger · 18/08/2018 06:21

I love my boys names, even now they're older, but not my DD's name, I struggled finding one and threw a few out, she was our first and born by ecs. When she was born, it was like a bolt out of the blue for DH, he was smitten and, whilst she was much wanted and planned, these feelings were like a switch had been flipped, and he chose her name out of one I'd mentioned in passing, I was out of it at the time.

In my life, that is one of my favourite memories, seeing him change in an instant.

Now, there are loads of girls names I like, bizarrely, as I'd struggled all those years before.

pipilangstrumpf · 18/08/2018 07:33

I love naming boys just as much as girls.

SnuggyBuggy · 18/08/2018 07:40

I always think boys names are either ordinary or ridiculous without many options for nice unusual names.

pipilangstrumpf · 18/08/2018 08:21

There are lots and lots of great classic normal boys names outside the top 100!

Threeandabit · 18/08/2018 09:47

It might be because there is a higher number of girls' names to choose from. Also girls' names go in and out of fashion quicker than boys'.

AhoyDelBoy · 18/08/2018 10:04

@NelleB do you like Emmett? I like it but DP doesn’t. I have almost zero interest in boys names as well, I don’t like many!

dw23 · 18/08/2018 10:28

Same but only because I'm totally stumped and know I'm expecting a girl and we had a boy name and now we can't agree at all on girl name. I found it so much easier to find boy names I like than girls, nothing is calling out to me (well nothing that my husband doesn't immediately veto).

NelleB · 18/08/2018 10:32

@ahoydelboy no... my second is Luca... it’s hard isn’t?

AhoyDelBoy · 18/08/2018 11:42

Luca is lovely NelleB!

thismeansnothing · 18/08/2018 11:43

Similar in that I'm only interested in boys names. Girls names just don't interest me, even though I have A DD they all seem a bit meh
