Caroline, Frances or Elizabeth for girl,

Also, Alexander, Guy or Hugh for boy?

What are your thoughts? Those are my top 3 of each! X

I reckon you need to think about shortenings (unless you plan to always call them to full name), and decide based on that.

Alex? Ali? Carrie? Liz? Lizzy? Beth? Etc.

Goostacean · 17/08/2018 00:46

*the/their full name, not “to”!

DitsyAndTheGang · 17/08/2018 05:59

We called our daughter Elizabeth and have ended up calling her Lizzie all the time, or Zizzie, both of which which we like, and which suit her. However, she does get called Liz occasionally, which I hate for some reason, and I think that's likely to increase further as she gets older (she's nine). You could call her Beth or Eliza or Liza for short to lead people away from Liz if you feel the same!

I like Caroline too.

Just bear in mind ALL the possible shortening of a name before you go for it. I'm trying to brainwash my Lizzie into disliking Liz too, as I'm afraid of that becoming her name forever as an adult otherwise!

I love both Frances and Elizabeth. NO idea why Frances is unpopular on here. All the Francees I've known have been lovely women. The sound is pretty. Frankie is cute and unisex which can be helpful.

Less keen on Caroline. Most of the Carolines I've known have been manipulative and cruel. It puts me off.

Twooter · 17/08/2018 08:02

I hate Frances. It just makes me think of a middle aged, very efficient, practical bustling woman with no femininity at all.
I
Like Elizabeth and Alexander best .

DuchessMinnie · 17/08/2018 08:07

I'm a Caroline with a brother called Guy. I think it's dated so am always surprised by anyone thinking it's pretty. I love Elizabeth, I would like to be a Lizzie rather than a Beth.

I personally prefer Francesca to Frances, but both are nice.

lottiegarbanzo · 17/08/2018 09:07

Caroline makes me think of the character in The Archers, who was married to a Guy for a while, so 'Caroline and Guy' says 'The Archers, mid-90s' to me. Maybe not to everyone!

Like all the boys’ names, don’t like any of the girls.

It’s hard to be a cool and stylish Frances or Caroline.

pipilangstrumpf · 17/08/2018 10:36

I love Caroline!

TheVanguardSix · 17/08/2018 10:42

Frances is actually super cool. Frances and Pearl are my cousin’s daughter’s names. They’re too cool for school.

Elizabeth is still my fave.

foxtiger · 17/08/2018 14:36

I love Frances and Elizabeth - I ought to like Caroline, it ticks a lot of the right boxes, but I can only picture someone over 40 and a bit upper-class. I like all three of the boys' names roughly equally, so a lot would depend on how they sounded with a particular surname.

Ditsy I love Zizzie! Smile

pouraglasshalffull · 17/08/2018 14:38

Elizabeth and Alexandra

The others seem a bit too old for me
