Boy name deadlock

I'm starting to think this baby boy will never have a name - he is more than a week old already! I would welcome the thoughts of the panel (and will be easily identifiable - hello if you know me! - but never mind).

Heritage (in decreasing order) English/Welsh/Australian/German.

Big sisters are Tilly and Harriet. Surname ends in "oh" sound so Hugo/Milo/Arlo etc don't sound good. Nicknames will be almost inevitable! Middle names could be any of the below or something else.

Options:
Alfred (Fred) - close family member has dog called Alfie
Angus (Gus) - OK if not at all Scottish? Might be my favourite.
Arthur (Artie) - a bit popular at the moment?
Barnaby (Barney)
Benjamin - but not keen on Ben/Benjy so probably out
Hugh - shares initial with sister - I guess not a disaster
Idris - nickname?
Jasper - nickname?
Max
Rory

Thank you....

Rory is my favourite.

Quizeerascal · 16/08/2018 19:12

Go for Angus if its your favourite, it goes well with your other dc names and Gus works well as a nn imo

Stuckforthefourthtime · 16/08/2018 19:14

Angus! Alfred also nice, he can be Alfie and in any case the dog comparison will fade quickly.

DC2018 · 16/08/2018 19:30

I really like Arthur and Rory x

greendale17 · 16/08/2018 19:31

My neighbours dog is called Angus

ContraryToPopularBelief · 16/08/2018 19:44

If Angus is your favourite, go for it! I can't imagine Scotland minding.

I think this is my favourite answer ever! I'm from Scotland and can confirm that Scotland doesn't mind. Grin

MalloryLaurel · 16/08/2018 21:08

Nope, Milo and Arlo are great names.

MummyItsallaboutyou · 17/08/2018 06:31

Angus is my favourite. I have a Gus, just Gus. We also have a surname ending in O.

pipilangstrumpf · 17/08/2018 07:28

Idris is a great name! Love it.

Petalflowers · 17/08/2018 07:35

In my dc’s infant school,in SE England, we had three Megan’s. In my sister dc’s class in Wales, there were none! Trying to show that an area doesn’t ‘own’ a name.

Love Barnaby.

Jasper nn Jay is great and I really like Angus nn Gus.

Flamingosnbears · 17/08/2018 07:43

Go for Angus.

Hippocraticoats · 17/08/2018 07:45

Thank you so much, everyone. That is an unexpectedly positive reception! The list is getting shorter...

Angus is great but I wouldn't shorten it. It sounds great as it is and is easy to say, (Particularly dislike Gus, Gussy, sounds like gusset.)

coralush · 17/08/2018 07:49

Rory

Namethecat · 17/08/2018 07:49

Rory is a great name.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 17/08/2018 07:50

I don’t think nicknames need to be predecided, they come naturally. I like Idris but think Jasper goes best

junebirthdaygirl · 17/08/2018 07:53

I prefer the lrish version Aonghus...so not the An sound but A as in apricot ..then n..then.. gus.
But l don't like Gus on its own ..its too sharp with your other lovely soft names.
My favourite is Hugh ..lovely simple name with no need to shorten.
Name that baby before evening !!!

auntyflonono · 17/08/2018 08:02

Angus Jasper

MinaPaws · 17/08/2018 08:09

I'm not keen on Angus. It reminds me of fungus. Seems a smelly sort of name.
Like all the rest.
Jasper could be shortened to Jas/Jazz?
I love Alfred, Arthur and Rory best.

AtticaRose · 17/08/2018 08:13

@ContraryToPopularBelief

Ha, thanks!

I am in possession of a Scottish sounding last name, despite no Scottish connections that I know of. If anything, they are always overly keen to claim me as one of their own!!

DollyWilde · 17/08/2018 08:16

I’m not a fan of Angus as I worked with someone who once sent a client called Angus an email but missed out the G in his name. Entirely accidental and he laughed it off but she was Blush

Rory is my favourite of yours followed by Hugh and Barnaby.

TatianaLarina · 17/08/2018 11:29

I like Angus, Jasper, Max and Rory best.

I’d ditch the rest personally and choose out of those.

Icklepup · 17/08/2018 13:48

Angus... Or Magnus

pouraglasshalffull · 17/08/2018 14:12

I love Rory! That goes well with the sisters name too, I don't think Angus flows as well with Tilly and Harriett
