Overthinking nickname

So our son is due imminently and we have decided to call him Jude. We both love it and it’s a definite.
My only issue-I have an awful habit of shortening OR lengthening names! Annoying I know. Molly becomes Molls, Ben=Benji. Etc.
I guess my question is...what will Jude become?! I don’t want him to become Judy🙈 is there any obvious pet names for Jude I’m missing or do I just need to get over my annoying habit.

Judo? Grin

I really can't think of anything. Possible that someone might say Judie, but I think you've chosen something that's hard to mess around with!

luckiestgirl · 16/08/2018 11:00

Judes

AnneOfCleavage · 16/08/2018 11:03

I think you're fairly safe with Jude.
The only nn I can think of is JuJu but if anyone tried to shorten it just repeat his full name. It would only be while he was a little baby I find with people doing baby speak etc.

We named our son Jude, and had declared our intention to do so a couple of months before the birth.

My family pulled a face and said ‘that’s a girls name!!’ But we ignored it.

When he was born we named him Jude as planned and my eldest (them aged 5) immediately started calling him judey which killed it for us, so we named him something completely different.

He was only going to be called judey once!! Grin

Looking at him now, he doesn’t look like a Jude. All his baby cards have the wrong name on them though!!

overthinkingitus · 16/08/2018 11:10

I’m hoping Judes🙈 I love it as it has a lot of family meaning but I always have last minute wobbles with kids names. Feels like a lot of pressure!

I know a Jude- nickname Dude!

FlappyFeet · 16/08/2018 11:27

Our neighbour is Judy or JuJu

overthinkingitus · 16/08/2018 11:47

Judy or JuJu would wind me right up.
May have to try and shake my habit and knock and ‘Judy’ cutie nicknames on the head at the same time🤔

How about just 'J'.

overthinkingitus · 16/08/2018 12:42

Yeah J is an option too I guess. Thanks 😊

Why not call him Julian then and shorten it to Jude?

DPotter · 16/08/2018 12:48

I agree Jude could easily be a Juju.

Thing is you can try your level best to choose a name which fits the child perfectly, will age well with the child, doesn't give you rude words as initials, avoids ex gfs & bfs etc, etc and then some 5 year old in school will say something, the others latch on and the poor kid has an awful nickname and you have no control as its school.

I like the name Jude - strong and sensitive. Just be firm - he's Jude and that's it!

Lightsonthewater · 16/08/2018 12:51

I’d call him Judey, mimicking the end of Hey Jude

firsttime17 · 16/08/2018 14:20

My son is called Jenson and I was petrified when I named him that people would call him Jen as it's a bit girly... we all call him 'J' and I make it clear to people that they cannot use Jen as a nn😂 x

TatianaLarina · 16/08/2018 14:25

I know two guys called Jude and they’re not called anything but Jude.

One syllable names can’t be shortened and if you want a family nn you could choose something with no relation the name.

Hogtini · 16/08/2018 14:26

Ju

Buscake · 16/08/2018 14:26

My boy is called Jude, Mr Jude, Jude the Dude, Judels, Doodles, Noodles etc, Judelington etc etc many variations

bettybyebye · 16/08/2018 14:38

Sometimes we call ours rudey judey or judester, but we mainly just call him Jude Smile hope that helps!

Lightsonthewater · 16/08/2018 15:00

Tatiana I know an Ian and he gets called E!

overthinkingitus · 16/08/2018 15:12

Thanks everyone for the comments. There is no question of us changing his name so I guess I will have to see what develops organically and hope that Jude or Judes is what I divert to naturally! Wish I wouldn’t worry about such daft things!
