Hi! My husband and I are thinking about "Jules" for our little boy, as in Jules Feiffer (illustrator) and Jules Verne (writer), both male. I know this name is gaining some popularity for girls...any opinions on it being used for a boy?
Thanks!

I quite like it.

WickerHippo · 15/08/2018 18:51

My DS is Julian and we call him Jules for short and have never had anyone tell us it’s too girly

NicknameMustbeBetween4and30Cha · 15/08/2018 19:01

No offence WickerHippo but only an absolute dick would actually tell you that, even if they thought it!

Since you asked for opinions, OP, I'll give you mine. I don't like it. I assume it's a shortened version of Julie.

MyDirtyLittleSecret · 15/08/2018 19:36

I do like it, for either a boy or a girl. It's as much a boys' name as it is a girls' in my experience and I wouldn't automatically assume either sex if I heard it called out in the park but wait to see who came running.

Clairetree1 · 15/08/2018 19:39

nice

ReginaPhalange89 · 15/08/2018 19:44

I would assume it was a girl, not keen! sorry

LivLemler · 15/08/2018 19:53

I like it. It makes me think of the late F1 driver Jules Bianchi, and so I would assume male. I may also assume the French pronunciation though, I'm not sure.

Greeneyedgeek83 · 15/08/2018 20:00

For Julian it's fine but wouldn't use on its own. I see Jules as more of a girls nickname though

30hours · 15/08/2018 20:01

Perfectly nice and middle class!

TatianaLarina · 15/08/2018 20:34

I’d prefer Julian with Jules as a nn if he wants.

All the Jules I know are female. In France it’s different as Jules is an established male name.

badg3r · 15/08/2018 20:42

Are you pronouncing it the English or French way? If French then fine, if English I would go Julian nn Jules

WooYa · 15/08/2018 20:43

I like it

coralush · 15/08/2018 21:16

Gorgeous xx

Littlebird88 · 15/08/2018 21:19

i see lots.of kids in my job and have seen a fair few Jules . all boys. would never consider it to be a female name at all.
it's a great name. nice and short. easy to spell.

3catsandcounting · 15/08/2018 21:39

I had a boyfriend (back in the 80s) called Jules (Julius). He was very cool. 😊

Maireadd · 15/08/2018 22:07

Love it!

Picknickers · 15/08/2018 22:30

The one I know is French and very very sexy!
