Am I absolutely crazy for liking these names?

So we're still TTC baby no.2. But just cause I'm a bit of a nutcase I'm always on the lookout for potential future baby names, and actually keep a little list of names I hear that i like in my phone 🙈

Current favourite baby name ever is Norah. And if we are lucky enough to get a second DD any time soon I would love to use it! My partner hates it and thinks I'm nuts. A. For even thinking about baby names at this point and B. Because he just generally thinks it's an awful name.

One name we both agree on is Bonita (Bonnie as a nickname) but I just know it's one of those names that will be like marmite. What do you guys think? Should I just scratch them off the list?

Anyone else have a slight obsession with baby names despite not actually being pregnant? Or am I just a little bit loopy, lol.

I love Norah but like some many others I am now going to be singing la Isla Bonita for the rest of the day.
I think both names are quite accent dependent.

I love Norah - it my girl name, but had all boys so never got to use it! I don't think the Norah Batty and Nit nurse references will have any relevance these days so that wouldn't put me off - it certainly wouldn't be something that the kids at school would be aware of. I prefer the spelling with the h personally too.

GreenTulips · 14/08/2018 07:58

Nitty Nora is in all the Horrid Henry books. So shes still about.

Awrite · 14/08/2018 07:58

Agree with others - Norah is lovely. With the h, it reminds me more of Norah Jones the singer rather than Nora Batty the character.

Bonnie is lovely too.

Wasn't Bonita one of Gabrielle's daughters in Desperate Housewives? Not keen

MollyHuaCha · 14/08/2018 08:24

I like Norah.

I know a Bonita, nn Bonnie, currently in her teens. She is lovely. But I'm still not keen on either name. Bonita means 'pretty'. What if she's not?

DollyDayScream · 14/08/2018 08:59

Love Norah and Bonnie is sweet.

I'm not keen on Bonita, it makes me think of an exotic dancer.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/08/2018 10:11

My late MIL was a Norah, but disliked it so much she always used her middle name. Not sure why (maybe too 'old fashioned'... she'd have been about 100 now...or perhaps the 'bloody Nora' expletive?)

Leonora or Elenora are lovely though and allow the child more flexibility with NNs.

usernotfound0000 · 14/08/2018 11:28

I love the name Norah, Bonnie for me will always be a cat name though!

Hellbentwellwent · 14/08/2018 11:38

I love Norah, also Cora and Corrine.

PenelopeFlintstone · 14/08/2018 11:45

I also thought of Bloody Nora.
And I do also know a pet called Bonnie, but then my daughter's name is also now a very popular dog name Grin
I like ErrolTheDragon's idea of a longer name that you can shorten to Nora but gives her more options if she hates it.
Plus, isn't Bonnie a polite word for 'fat' in some places in the UK? I think I've seen that on MN before.
Sorry to be negative.

Sophronia · 14/08/2018 13:10

I know a 28 year old Bonnita / Bonnie

Lynne1Cat · 14/08/2018 13:13

I've only ever heard of the name Bonita once. She was Scottish and very nice.

My brother's wife is a Norah - she's a lovely lady but VERY plain, old-looking (she's 63 but looks very much older), extremely lined and has straggly grey hair, no make-up. I love her to bits but I would associate that name with someone old-fashioned and unattractive because of her.

Pompom42 · 14/08/2018 13:14

I like both but prefer Nora without the "h"

TatianaLarina · 14/08/2018 14:29

If your partner hates it you can’t use Norah.

Bonita in London it would be pronounced Bonnee’ah.

Bonnie is pretty in its own though.

SilverySurfer · 14/08/2018 15:45

Bonnie is lovely, not so keen on Bonita. Norah reminds me of my aunt who, whenever someone shocked or surprised her would respond Flaming Norah! which puts me off the name.

Girlslikeme · 14/08/2018 18:27

I remember Nora Batty who was a joke character so it’s a definite no.

I know a Bonita and have always liked it.

Pinkvoid · 14/08/2018 19:54

I love Norah but Bonita makes me think of a song. Can’t put my finger on which but isn’t a good song Grin.

MikeUniformMike · 14/08/2018 20:03

Norah makes me think of Flamin' Nora.
Bonnie is nice but Bonita makes me think of bonito fish.
